The other day I was leafing through old 'bytes' in a dusty corner of a forgotten harddrive, and came across some ancient skins I did for a forgotten proggy or two...
Got me thinking....
What got me into this?...that's easy...was shells - messing with the GUI the 'brutal' way....but that's not what has me here still....around 10 years later.
So that reminded me of a 'feeling' I had at that old skinz.org site..... when I realised that skinning was nothing more than a new artform, like painting, or sculpting, except for one small detail.....People doing 'it' in the mid/late '90s were at the DAWN of the emergence of this new 'artform', and THAT was something no painter or sculptor could lay claim to....[at least none still living].
It meant that even as an 'observer' what was being done was genuinely fresh, new and exciting....and if you also happened to 'dabble in it' yourself then the fun was even more acute.
So....a decade later...the world has changed, skinning is far better-known now than it was then, and a lot of 'new' faces have been attracted to it all. [skinz.org membership probably just made it into 4 figures...Wincustomize is in 7]
Question is.....WHY...?
Casual time-killer or outlet for expression?
The 'sad' part is knowing the people who have moved on, departed the scene...over the years. People you think of...often....of whom many now are oblivious. The 'happy' part is those who come after...to swell the ranks, even though skinning is now more complex [harder]...and maybe quite less divergent [fewer skinnable apps].
[I digress]

Cos there's not enough threads around here going downhill real fast, perhaps.
BTW, Jack said hi back....woulda told you himself (several times) but reckons he keeps missin' ya cos you're so very seldom seen.

Not too sure....don't see him often enough to make a positive ID anymore. Apparently, his missus couldn't even pick him out in a line up, such is his ability to blend into the woodwork.....bit like a shape shifting chameleon, really, thus very seldom seen.

It might be handy to stand sideways in a crowd, so as not to be noticed....but you're gonna need a much higher profile if n' when there's 'some nut down on the corner giving five dollar bills away'

Yup!! Word has it that when the weather turned real nasty a few years back, one was literally blown in the door.....stayed to seek Shelter from the Storm - and never left.
Stumblin' in is one thing, and so many are found wandering the halls many moons later saying 'there must be some way outta here'....but there isn't! Like the Hotel California, the 'revolving doors' out front only go one way...in, and the 'back door man' has lost his keys.
Oh well, since the place has really 'gotten under my skin' and 'I'm all shook up', someone else 'll have to organise the 'jailbreak'.

#70 ?? Me...well I've been in a musical mood just lately...so thank your lucky stars I didn't (try to) sing.
Sounds much like a tail that's had its cat trodden on .....er, you know wot I mean And seldomseen, I magnified that dot several thousand times....tut, tut....such language, and so bold too, especially brazen from someone who generally slinks silently in the shadows, with hand cupped over mouth to prevent utterances/accidental slips of the tongue
Okay, so your parents told you as a kid that you should be (rarely) seen and not heard, to speak only when spoken to....but isn't this taking it to the extreme.
BTW, tis nice ta see ya....the dot (as cheeky as it was) lets us know you're still around...well sort of.
