Microsoft released Vista RC1 (build 5600) to users who participated in the Customer Preview Program today. If you participated in the Beta 2 release, you should have received an e-mail with information on the RC1 release. You will need to use the key given to you in Vista Beta 2 for this new release

If you were not part of the Customer Preview Program before don't worry. Microsoft will be taking new participants soon, so check the CPP website for information on signing up.

Why not? You prefer a torrent perhaps? A link of a warez site?

I was pretty disappointed by RC1 . The Beta 2 worked great on my computer. Really great infact. It was VERY fast and looked great of course.

So I went ahead and tried out the RC1. Got rid of the Beta 2, formatted the hard drive, and installed RC1. Only to find out two things. The first install simply refused to work. It said that my computer didn't support the OS, and couldn't complete the install (not sure how much changed between the last Beta and the RC1 ).

Second install corrupted my boot.ini or something because my computer refused to load my primary harddrive. I was pulling out my hair worrying how I could fix this. I have no install disk for XP cause the place I bought the computer from doesn't give them out .

Long story short(er) RC1 didn't work . Shame really...

Beta 2 was horrible. It was slow, crashed all the time and was very buggy.

RC1 will be great! Ive been testing build 5536, which was the pre-RC1 build. I downloaded RC1 last night, Ill try it today

RC1 is great , just one question anyone know how to turn off the account protection thingy that pops up all the time (surely someone will sue for the resulting eye ache/head ache it causes ! )

Thanks for the link!!!!

When did you all get the email?

Microsoft's Vista Blog site said that not everyone will receive the email immediately, however they will be emailing everyone that participated in the Beta 2 testing, in due time. They are sending emails in batches so as not to clog their servers.

If you still have your Beta 2 license # then use the link provided and download away!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Stardock/WC for providing us with that link!!!!

Speedy

P.S. I changed ISPs since the Beta 2 signup and would not have received the email linking me to this.......You saved me on this one!!!!!!!

Just installed. It took about 25 minutes to install. Not bad compared to 40 minutes for windows xp. Now let's see if everything works fine

I guess I don't quite understand how it is that the download page link is public, and yet MS says:

"Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is now available for Customer Preview Program (CPP) participants only. If you are not registered but would like to receive RC1, the CPP will open to new participants in the coming weeks."

So, what's the deal here?

I'm downloading now.
