Apple: Preemptive whining

Robert McLaws says Apple has Vista envy. And I think he's right.  MacOS X, which is currently the best desktop OS out there in my opinion, is starting to feel the heat from Windows Vista.

Rather than wait for Vista to actually ship, Apple has taken a preemptive whining about Microsoft "stealing" their ideas.

Here are two free clues for Apple:

Clue #1: Sometimes an idea is so obvious that people will come up with it independently.

Clue #2: Sometimes what you put into the OS has already been out, were you copying?

With Apple's new MacOS, Leopard, Apple is touting a number of features such as Time Machine (basically a brute force version of Stardock's KeepSafe which, no doubt, will have Apple zealots eventually retroactively claiming they had it first).

The most obnoxious thing of the show as reported by LonghornBlogs is Apple tweaking the Vista logo to make it look like Microsoft just took the Windows logo and put it in an Aqua bubble:

Bad move since anyone can look at the actual Vista logo and tell that no, that's not it.

An article on WinCustomize.com asks "Why do people hate the Mac so much?". It's not that people hate the Mac. It's fantastic hardware with a terrific OS.  It's the pretentious, elitist Mac users people don't like.  Users falsely claiming that Apple was first to put some feature into the OS (or some Apple ISV) despite the feature existing on Windows for years. Mac users acting as if they are superior for choosing a Mac over a PC (hey, I'd buy a Mac Pro for video editing but it doesn't support mini-DVD camcorders which I absolutely favor).

Apple tactics such as the "Redmond, start your photocopiers" nonsense and it's obnoxious ads absolutely encourage its rabid fanbase to behave so loathsome that I know plenty of people who won't buy a Mac simply because they don't want to be associated with "those 'people'".

By all accounts, MacOS X Leopard is going to be outstanding and coupled with state of the art hardware, it's in a great position. Let the quality of the product speak for you -- not endless whining and pontificating. Be the platform of true power users, not the platform for pretentious weenies who think getting a Mac will somehow make up for all the wedgies they got in highschool.

Its one thing to mention you are better than the competition but from what I can see Apple is really demeaning. A corporation should have higher morals than that. If they are really so much better, then why do they have to take the low ground and put down the opposition.
Do they seriously think bashing MS will gain them converts? If they do they stand to lose more than they will gain.
Show me why Apple's OS deserves my business. Especially if Apple PC's can now run Windows, can OS X run on Windows computers? If not, well there is absolutely no chance I will change even if I would have considered it.

Grow up Apple.

i agree,seems better to bash than create.but i cant talk much,pc bashing anyway.i used to own an Amiga,and the amount of arguements over which was better went on for days.Those were the Days.

....and then they discover that it sadly doesn't...and think uber-geekdom + propeller hat = Linux, anyway....hmmmm....

I couldn't agree more, Brad. Listening to some of the recordings from the current WWDC, it's sad how much they're not just trying to "compete" with Vista but trying to "bring them down" in order to bring themselves up. I remember, as a child, being told by my parents that if you put someone down in order to try & make yourself seem higher up, you actually are putting yourself on such a low platform that people will advance beyond you before you know it. Do they really need to demean Microsoft to try & make their products look better.

I've talked with alot of mac users, even most of the few said they were disappointed with the 'Leopard preview' Nothing that would be functional, worse is that Apple proved me right.

I'm getting a Mac pro, but I understand the diffrence between the two systems. Alot of users compare OS X against XP as if it were fair, but Tiger came out 2005 so comparing it too a system that came out in 2001 isn't a fair comparison.

Compare Puma VS XP - users who have used Puma know just how fast & stable it was

I think Apple is just a little sour that the media hardly pays attention to Macs as much as they do to Microsoft. I'm not biased, I love OS X & I also love XP. I just hate how most Mac users feel that feel as if there better than everyone else because they use a Mac.

GhoS hit the nail on the head. If Apple want me to spend the large sum of money it takes to invest in one of their products, perhaps they'd be better off focussing on their own product and what it does better than the rest. Seeing a self-absorbed corporate executive spend his time bashing the company who make my current operating system, which I happen to be rather content with, only serves to paint his company as self-serving bullies.

Tell me why I should be buying a Mac, not why I shouldn't continue to invest in Windows.

Im bogged down with forum posts on another site from rabid Mac fans not excepting that New Intel Macs use run-of-the-mill Intel chipsets. It's kinda sad that a company with such style and quality has to dip to mud throwing.

Well said Frogboy. I'm both a Mac as well as PC user. Apple does make an excellent product both hardware and software and it's no different than Microsoft. My experince with XP, application software and the Microsoft brand has been outstanding, from their keyboards/mice to the Xbox and the Xbox360 including Xbox Live. Mac fanboys will lead you to believe that most XP systems have the wheels coming off. It has never been the case with all my XP systems. It has been a solid stable OS from day 1.

I find mac zealots not only offensive but embarassing as well. Go to any forum and don't use correct spelling i.e. IMAC instead of iMac and watch as they swoop down for the kill. On the other hand it's ok for them to spell Windows as "windoze" or PC as "Pee Cee".

Btw Frogboy congrats with the birth of your baby.

The Vista Logo is in a bubble but the word used was "tweaked" and IMO it was tweaked.

It's in a bubble, yes, but what people where talking about was that in was in a bubble styled the OSX way.

Apple makes great products, but it's no surprise that they approach attacking MS/Vista this way.

People seem to forget what an utter twat Stevie is.

Watch the Pirates of Silicon Valley (again?) to remind yourselves. Bill Gates is pretty back stabbing for balance.

you guys are missing a big score with the apple ads and philosophy..: the fan boys.

how many of us, as children, joined in the ridiculing of someone else just so you could fit in with the crowd? i was always an under dog, and even i found someone else to make fun of 'cause i thought i was cool. There are a lot of people out there who will jump on board with mac because of how cool they think the ads are, and from seeing how easy it is to rip on anohter company, they think that company -must- be inferior. corporate morals and level behavior aren't even considered. Flashy will pull a lot of people right in.

Someone at work here recently bought in to the hype. A week later, their imac is down with IT trying to recover their data from an os crash... keepin' my mouth shut.
