Object Desktop 2007 nears

A big year for skinning is about to begin...

Wednesday, July 5, 2006 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Stardock is starting to put the final touches onto Object Desktop 2007.  Object Desktop is the company's flag-ship product and it is content for Object Desktop that make up most of the top galleries here on WinCustomize.com.  Object Desktop 2007 is essentially a CD snapshot of where Object Desktop is today.

Object Desktop is a suite of utilities that enhance the Windows experience. Popular programs of Object Desktop include WindowBlinds, DesktopX, IconPackager, WindowFX, and more.  The entire package is only $49.95 and it includes a full year of free updates (and users can continue to get additional updates after that year at a discounted rate).

Object Desktop 2007 is scheduled to come out later this month. The timing is specifically such that users of Windows XP will be able to take XP to its true zenith but also be amongst the first to be able to enhance Windows Vista when it arrives early next year.

A lot of Stardock's development has centered around preparing for the release of Object Desktop 2007.  New enhancements to Keyboard LaunchPad, DesktopX, WindowBlinds, IconPackager, Theme Manager, and more have all be either already done in recent weeks or are in the works for the launch.

One of the new pieces is the Object Desktop Manager which allows users to treat Object Desktop as a single, integrated product.  The manager organizes Object Desktop into its three primary functions: Personalizing Windows, Creating new things for Windows, and extending Windows.  Object Desktop allows users not only to transform how Windows looks, feels, and functions, it also provides the tools necessary for users to create their own enhancements.  In addition, Object Desktop includes utilities that seamlessly extend the functionality of Windows such as the Enhanced File Dialog, RightClick, Virtual Desktops, and much more.

You can learn more about Object Desktop at www.objectdesktop.com.  The next year will be amongst the most exciting times for PC enthusiasts and Object Desktop 2007 is poised to help users make the most of it.

Well I have to ask an asinine question...will current OD subdcribers be able to update to OD 2007, or will we need to re-purchase this version?

Good Question KiloKrash, and will the new Desktop 2007, support vista beta 2 Build 5384, which right now does not allow me to use WB, IconPackager, or many of the Stardock products I've purchased

If you have an active subscription you'll get all of OD2k7.

Users of Object Desktop regardless of when they purchased, get all updates for 1 year after their initial purchase.

Users who purchase Object Desktop 2007 will get WindowBlinds and such that will work on the released version of Windows Vista since they will get updates that will come out when Windows Vista presumably ships.

But WindowBlinds 5.01 will not work on Windows Vista, it will be an updated version of WindowBlinds by then.  We have WindowBlinds working on Windows Vista internally.

I’m running the Vista Beta 2 on 1 of my PC’s…..looking at some of the new features and reading about the ones that will be included with the final release…..I’m not sure that I will need to run OD with the new Windows. Can you tell us a little more about how the 07 OD will benefit those of us that upgrade to one of the Vistas’….FMI.

I feel sorry for the folks that won't spend the $50. The Stardock folks are super people and all the others who create skins etc. are super. Thank you all.

It means that 'private' builds of Windowblinds are working with Vista....however since Vista is only [currently] available as a Beta the [therefore equally] beta of Windowblinds is not for public consumption....I'd imagine not until Vista itself has gone Gold...

When it does come im going to order a snapshot cd, now will it come with all the updated programs with it? Because i was going to order a snapshoot cd now but everything is in beta, and you woundnt get the betas. So will everything be a release and not a beta when OD2007 is released? Any idea on a date? Looks sweet! Stardock should release a beta so people can see how it works.

I think OD2007 is for folks that don't have a subscription to ODNT and just want the apps (and some of the best skins). Subscribers have access to everything already.

I imagine that it might lead to subscriptions later (and beta access).

A couple of questions: Since I have been running stand-alone versions of WB, IP, and ObjectDock Plus lately, I am not up to date on Object Desktop. 1 - If I were to subscribe to Object Desktop tomorrow, would I have access to WB 4.6 via Stardock Central? 2 - Will Object Desktop 2007 include access to WB 4.6? I ask this because I have somehow misplaced my archive CD from my former subscription years to ObjectDesktop 2004. Any information would be great.

I know I could just create my own CD but for conversation purposes. Is there a discount for people that already have relatively new subscriptions?

Suppose something I made was included on the CD. I wouldn't mind having a copy for old times sake. I think it would be pretty cool if something I made happened to make it on a cd. If Stardock can make some money off it, good for them and all that is skinning. Getting it at a discount is cooler.

Obviously it poses a problem that someone could buy at a discount and resell.
