Windows Vista: Beta 2 nearly here..

Microsoft's new OS a radical change under the covers

Tuesday, May 9, 2006 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Very soon Microsoft is scheduled to release Beta 2 of Windows Vista.  Don't let its appearance fool you, it is a radical change under the covers from previous versions.

This week on WinCustomize.com I will be posting a series of impressions and news about the new beta along with a lot of commentary.  You can get info on Vista all over the place, what I hope to do is try to provide insight on problems and benefits Windows Vista is running into at this stage.

Windows Vista won't be generally available until early next year.

I'm running Vista 5381.1 right now --- it's a big improvement, but the User Access Control (UAC) windows that keep popping up are a bit of a pain. Also, folders not normally hidden in XP are out of sight in Vista, supposedly for security reasons. I'll continue to play with it...

Do you know what it means when they say Vista will not be generally available for home consumers until next year. I've heard that the businesses will be able to get it in November. Is it that new computers won't ship with Vista until next year? Can you then buy it separately if you want? Or is it simply not possible?

Yep, businesses will get it in november. It wont be available for home cusumers until January.
I tried 5365 and loved it. Not a single crash, worked great. I even gamed on it.

Word on the street is that it may get delayed again and so businesses will not see it in November. Microsfot has denied some of these reports but they've let the deadline slip so many times already that its not inconceivable to see it slip yet again.

I was excited for vista (back when it was called longhorn) when MS showed off all of the bells and whistles, i.e., winfs but they've continually cut back on all of the innovation and to be honest it just starting to look like a bloated version of XP SP3.
