for instance, in painting, or using any other medium for that matter, there are to kinds of pics that u can attempt to create. theres the kind where u can try to make it look exactly like and pic that a camera took, or, u can embrace the qualities of that medium like Adamness said. i think he did a good job at making it look like a camera took it. plus, if ur gonna hag on other peoples work, at least show that u can do better....

That's not true at all. I can't do a lot of things, but it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to express my opinion on the matter. I'm not the President, but I sure share my opinion about him, and there's nothing wrong with doing so.
To me, Photoshop is a photo editing piece of software. I don't use it to create original art, and I'm not too crazy about pieces made in Photoshop. If you want to make 3d art, go actually make something in 3d, instead of a simulation of 3d in the computer. When Pixar or one of those other animation companies do a movie, they create the characters in clay or plaster, and they draw them out. It isn't done exclusively in the computer.
Bert Monroy makes images for the sake of doing so. When you try to be so representational and realistic, as he is, creativity and originality are lost.

The battle between naturalism and symbolism still on i guess...Some people say art is supposed to represent life, in extreme situations to copy life as is. That is naturalism. On the counter part people say art is supposed to represent spiritual processes, thoughts, ideas, even life, but it doesn't have to copy it exactly. That is symbolism. The choice is yours and yours alone.

He created a scene of a very real location, he made it as realistic as he possibly could without just taking a "picture" = Creativity
It is "original" because even if you took a picture, you will never be able to capture that exact scene..*ever*
Many artists do the very same thing...and I would argue that what Bert tried to do was exactly what artists try to do most of the time...digitally or on canvas..
For an example..why are "things/people" used as models for "art" puposes?
I guess I dont have to point out that I completely disagree..LoL

I saw a photo-realistic painting of the same type subject done with airbrush (not digitally) The thing was 6 feet wide. It was truly awesome. I could never figure out how someone could accomplish something like that without it being a photograph. Your guy certainly has talent.
