ScreenShots

Seems people think I don't like ScreenShots. Thats not true. I've commented on a bunch and have featured some. Just excapes me how people have all that time to upload a couple a day. Seems to me if they change their desktop that often, they must not have liked what was there. If thats the case why upload it? But nothing I or anyone else can say will change anyones mind on this subject.
I do have 1 request that seems fair. When you upload a screenshot, how about giving the names of the skins/walls used so people can download them if they like some of the skins that was used. I see every screenshot thats uploaded and at times I like some of what I see and would like to download it but can't as the discription is blank. If your going to showcase someone elses work at least give them props.

Although, I am guilty of that.

in my case, when i finish a new cursor or wallpaper i try it, then i realize that my setup doesn't fit with that new skin, so i change all my setup.., if the new style is good enough, i submit into the screen shots section.

I have been blunt to people about the lack of info but..it wont matter because there are no guidelines. People will continue to upload 2 or 5 a day and unless they are told otherwise..it will never change...

Sure, you could argue that you are showing your talent for "arranging" the items that you have collected...but those items were struggled over for days, perhaps weeks by a skinner/artist that provided it (in most cases) free of any charge except for your enjoyment... Giving that artist mention I do not think is asking alot...
I kind of felt a little odd at first about a recent incident involving a screenshot and one of the Logons that I created..the screenshot was pulled due to the lack of proper credit being given...all I did was track down the artist through google and ask permission to use his wall for the logon, as soon as he found out where I had seen the wall he made some waves about it and had the screenshot pulled...
I cant blame him for it,although it may have been a little drastic, it is after all his creation and the only thing he wanted was his name mentioned...
Ah well, thats just one "other" reason perhaps to be sure and credit the authors... the SS's can and will be pulled without question at the orignal artists request...

1) it would take a little more work and would slow down some of the heavy submitters
2) it would allow folks that liked their arrangements to easily recreate them.
3) it would by design give credit to the artists that made the skins
But my opinion and $2.69 will get you a gallon of gas.

And in some cases smaller than the preview!

Most people customize the original applications, wb walls etc, so they would not be allowed to upload as a suite unless they had permission from each and every author/artist and thats not gonna happen.
Screenshots have their place its just a pity a few go overboard with the number they submit. Surely the time has come for a rule limiting the number submitted per person per day.

I need to spend more time looking at the sceenshots I guess because I don't notice that much customization. (I do notice color shifts sometimes, but that's not realy customizing).

Screenshots will only be 'pulled' if and when their wallpaper is not appropriately/sufficiently obscured which can create a copyright/distribution 'issue'.
Wincustomize.com is probably the ONLY site on the net that has this limitation/restriction with screenshot submissions.
The only OTHER time a screenie might be pulled is if it's simply porn or similar [...eg racially vilifying in content] or if a skinner or wall artist has had a specific reaison for a work NOT to be shown...eg...an inadvertent 'exposure' of a restricted artwork subject to commercial limitation.....[you show a friend a WIP for commercial/private release and he inadvertently makes it 'public' prematurely].
Otherwise, screenies are NOT restricted, though it's difficult to understand the motivation of the odd one or two to want to submit so many so often....

excellent post WOM thanks for the reminder that "links/names" provide others with easy means to find the skins used as well as giving the Authors the credit they deserve

Question: Is it ok to have a wallpaper unobscured if it's something that is freely available (being distributed) as a wallpaper with a link in the description on where to get the full wall? I tend to use a lot of commercial art work for walls and many of them are downloads that are offered by the company as wallpaper images from their websites.

| --Fairyy~-- It takes extra time to gather the links of all the stuff used. |
I agree WOM and Fairyy~ just naming the artist and skin would be enough most times (except off site things I would guess). That shouldn't be too much to ask or do (as most times the name of the item used should be readly available, unless you renamed it).
| --Fairyy~-- The new trend in screen shots is " See the To Do List " for the skins used. |
This is just a shame and I think in some way just a way to "get it done" and raising the "downloads" of it.
Come to think of it... why is there even a "download" count/number for these things?

Yes Yes Yes
Not knowing who made what or where to find it when I see something I like in a SS just drives me nutz!
