Numerous problems since upgrading to WB5

Thursday, March 2, 2006 by mizxecio | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I upgraded to WB5 yesterday, and it seems to have completely screwed up my computer.

First of all, when you log in I get the classic logon prompt, when I have the welcome screen logon and user switching enabled. Additionally, when I try to switch user, I get the "Unlock Computer" dialog, saying "this computer is in use and has been locked", I type in my password, and it just takes me back to the desktop.

MDI buttons are not being skinned, I just get the windows classic MDI's, also, using a toolbar skin that has a custom thobber, I still get the standard XP throbber. All three problems are happening whatever theme I use.

Does anyone know what is causing these problems? Obviously, I'm rather displeased at having just spent £10 upgrading from 4.6, only to have all these problems, when everything was fine before.

Did you uninstall 4.6 first? Through Stardock central?

Completly uninstall WB4.6
Reboot.
Install WB 5.

All it costs is time, and how badly can it hurt?

Yep. Usually this is the best thing to do in order to avoid headaches.

Your login issue sounds unrelated to WB.  For some reason your PC is using classic style login (no fast user switching) rather than Welcome screen login.  You can change this via the User Accounts option in Control Panel.  Pick Change the way users log on or off and tick both boxes.  WB never changes these settings.

The MDI button issue is a bug in the release 5.0 build.  As a registered customer you can download the later beta build which fixes this (use Stardock Central and enter your WB serial for registration information under the WB section and tick show betas) or we will be releasing an updated release version within the next month.

I am not aware of any throbber issues with 5.0.  What toolbar skin are you using?
