NextSTART v3.41 Released!

Monday, January 30, 2006 by JcRabbit | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Are you a Power User? Do you like to tweak your system so that every bit of it looks and behaves just the way you want it to? Then NextSTART and WorkShelf may be just what you were looking for!

NextSTART is a complete Start Menu, Taskbar and System Tray replacement, famous for its unmatched flexibility. If you ever worked with other Operating Systems, you know that the "Windows way" of doing things isn’t necessarily the best. Indeed, in many instances it has been watered down for the lowest common denominator with kludges and "features" that get 'in the way' rather than 'out of your way' when there's work to be done. With NextSTART the number of options you can configure is truly outstanding: among its many features are configurable menus - either via drag and drop or using the built-in Menu Editor - customizable menu behavior, an amazing number of ways to activate menus and run programs through an innovative use of a feature called hotspots, extended taskbar and systray management and more! You can use it to effortlessly navigate your hard disks and it even takes full advantage of multi-monitor systems. The possibilities are endless and suffice to say you must try it to truly experience the increased productivity and usability enhancements available to you: within its small footprint NextSTART carries an incredible power.

Download: Winstep Full Pak (includes NextSTART 3.41, WorkShelf 1.90 and FontBrowser 1.0)

I would just like to point out that it would be polite if you included the price of the application when posting a link that automatically downloads an application.

Strange that you point this out since it is actually not common practice in this type of announcements. Anyway, besides the download link there is also a link to the Winstep web site - where all the prices are clearly described in detail (not to mention in the software itself).

Plus, the whole idea behind shareware/trialware is that you get to try it for free first and THEN decide if it is worth the price asked for it or not.

Nextstart is very similar to 'Right-click' which is freely available with Object Desktop.

Gef, without wanting to discredit the meriths of Right Click, which is quite good for what it does, that is like saying the Space Shuttle is very similar to a paper plane. Well, errr, yeah...

Agreed, and Nextstart is good for what it does also. It's just my opinion that the differences don't warrant an extra $39.90. Object Desktop only costs $50 and look what you get for that!

I try every form of customization I see and I am a registered Nextstart user

For those only just seeing 'Nextstart' for the first time....it's been around since Adam was a pup....

It's always fun to try each and every 'skinnable/shell/GUI' out there....and see which suits you best....

That's your opinion indeed, and I'm sure many NextSTART users who also subscribe to Object Desktop would quickly disagree with you. Plus, $39.90 is for NextSTART and WorkShelf together, not just for NextSTART - as a registered NextSTART user, you should know that.

Stardock could throw everything and the kitchen sink into Object Desktop and sell it for $1 or even turn it into Open Source - it's their software, their choice - this still wouldn't invalidate that NextSTART and WorkShelf together are more than worth the $39.90 price asked for them. As Jafo mentioned, NextSTART is a mature application in constant development since 1998 and WorkShelf since 2000. What they do, they do extremelly well.

Anyway, I dont see the point of turning this into a piss contest with Object Desktop - and I'm certain Brad Wardell agrees with me on this one.

I have Object Desktop and Nextstart/Workshelf. I couldn't make it without either one.

I've been using both Object Desktop and NexStart for a long time and they are both great applications for what they offer and deliver on and well worth their respective pricing IMHO.

Awesome - I used to be a regular (and registered) user of both NextStart and Workshelf. I think I'm going to have to check it out again.
