New Object Desktop program coming
And new WinCustomize section..

Just a head's up, Stardock will soon be putting into beta a new Object Desktop program called SoundPackager (or some name that isn't already trademarked <g>).
It will do for system sounds what IconPackager did for icons. It will add a host of new sounds for all kinds of events on the system that will help spruce up your environment and give you greater control over it. We will have a WinCustomize section for users to submit their sound packages as well.

Always wished there was app to control things better. I know some have and do exist, but nothing with Stardocks level of commitment and design.

I don't even know the feature set that's been worked on but i've wanted this forever.
I'd love to see randomized sounds for certain things....so if you minimize 4 windows in a row they each execute a different sound from the "minimize group" of sounds.
Also widget compatibility, ie..."announce the current time", "say the temp in F", "Fatal Stop in abc.exe", etc etc. *grin*

FANTASTIC NEWS. I've been hoping fot this for ages now, a proggy that'll apply sounds as a package, rather than individually via the Windows control panel, etc.

Yes! If the sounds are assignable in ANY way easier than that which Windows already provides, you are doing us all a great service -- and where else but Stardock should we find the best way to manage them?.

hm... it's been many years since I was playing around with the sound scheme in Windows. With the new WC library, will it be possible to play back the sounds before you download them?

I have a set of floppies from my Win3.1 days from a company (Sound Source Unlimited, Inc) that licenced Star Wars sounds (and video) for system events. It was wicked cool. May have to break out those .wav files for my own use.

Brilliant idea... but I'm kind of worried we're going to get some really bad ones. I just pray to god noone does a Mariah Carey one.
Oh yes and also- what about copyright? I'm sure the RIAA will be all over your arses if anyone posts anything remotely similar to anything ever written in the history of mankind...

Not a fan of system sound schemes myself but i think this is a great way for stardock to expand on windows customization. Way to go

My first thought was something like: Oh why don't they focus on fixing productivity apps? But again if a policy driven application could be done with invisible memory footprint, that would be nice.
My policies would be:
-no system sounds during audio/video playback
-user customizable option to set visible (skinnable of course) remarks instead of system sounds during audio/video playback, or when laptop speaker is disabled
-lower volume of system sounds during night (i wanna tell what do I call "night")
-a lot smoother and a lot less jumpy magnifying effect in objectdock. Oh wait, that is something different, still I'd prefer this to stardock system sounds.

I have a feeling everyone is going to start out doing a bunch of movie quotes when this is released. I want some guitar solos for my sounds.
What programs could be used to make system sounds? Will there be a sound version of SkinStudio?
