The New School Prayer

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
From watching whats on the news now a days, thought this made a lot of sense.

I read this earlier on your site. It is very disturbing. The more we remove God from our lives the worse it's going to get. And people wonder what's wrong with the world. Go figure.

When I was growing up there was a sense of family and more women were able to be stay-at-home moms and dads were dads too busy taking care of families. Children were more nurtured and there was more of a sense of church and morality. The world has gotten really hectic and more of the family sense has detriorated as both parties are forced economically into the workplace, and/or if not forced economically then materialistically resulting in a decay of the family unit. So, with family detrioration and no time for children, the children suffer and so does society as a whole. Realistically there are still in tact family units who place value on life and children. But, in reflecting the above, one has to ask how this has slipped in without notice until it has escalated into a state matter. If the intent is that of showing no bias then why is it that those who wish to pray cannot while those who do not wish to feel they have to dominant. Where then is the equality of that which they are trying to accomplish.

It boggles me, reading this, that people wonder why their children are involved in criminal activities (gangs, sex chat, the list can go on and on). First, the state takes capitol punishment away from schools; when I was in school, it was Mr. Holt and his three foot long cherry wood paddle that everyone feared most. This fear kept major rule breaking from happening. I left, with my family, to an overseas assignment. Upon returning, the only thing in schools left for punishment was In School Suspension and Expulsion. What kid wants to stay in school if they are having SO much fun doing out of school things with their friends?
Recently and locally, there was an incident in a small town nearby that involved a third-grader and a "3 swat" punishment from the principle. There were marks left and the boy's family sued the school. That boy was being punished for bringing a weapon, a hunting knife, to school and threatening a schoolmate. The family concurred with the principle on the punishment, to keep the boy in school rather than have him expelled. And now they sue.
Over the holidays, we have people in the states fussing over "Merry Christmas" being used. These people are asking the Gov't to get involved and have this banned. So what are the first things that this country were started for? Freedom of religion and freedom from unfair taxation. Freedom of religion can't be if the State does not stay seperate from the Religions. So why ask the government to step in? Wrong country, move to Iran. There they will be happy to tell you what you can and cannot pray in school.
How will the public schools instill proper moral thinking? Do we add the words "as we understand him" to every instance we see "God" in public? Can't we just find something more worthwhile in fighting over than religion?
You will believe what you will, and they will believe as they will. But, as we all quibble over what religion is the right one, our children learn how to make bombs, hate the infidel, join gangs, learn to shoot up, learn how to rob their neighbors, learn how to be angry without thinking, and finally become your own opposition. Or they die before you do.
I don't see how schools can teach properly without leaving religious reference in textbooks, pledges, and so on. Public school and prayer: take that out. This forces those who do not have the same belief to conform and even break their own rules. But no child will learn anything if there is no religious reference.
That's not all I gotta say about that, but I'll end it here.

Thanks for the great idea Mike. And thanks Scorpio Logic for expressing some feelings I have, but unable to express so well. And last but not least, Thanks WOM for reposting this. In spite of those few who oppose it being posted I think most of us are in agreement. And may I add that God is not a religion. He is omnipresent.

I urge people to see how this is supposed to bring out the absurdirties in todays society. Don't use it as a tool for a platform. That won't fix anything.

How bout Math, Science, Ecology.
I am not out to offend anyone but teaching students about the earth is far more important than teaching them about a god. Just my opinion, I know others disagree. No need to get fiesty.

Whether God is or is not in schools will not determine a child's fate. Only the parents can (or should) do that. If you don't know how to raise children, don't breed.

Funny how the majority keeps acting as if they're the ones being attacked. As an atheist, (please respect my ideas and not pray for me) I feel more and more pressure of religion, Christianity in particular.
I am a good person, and abide by the 10 Commandments, minus the religious stuff. That's more than I can say for many, many 'Christians.' Look at all the horrible politicians, and lunatic televangelists who want to assassinate world leaders.
I disagree with the idea that more religion is needed. If anything, we need less.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Gregory2001, but raising a child is the responsibility of all people. The parents are first in line, but it does not end there. Our children are in school as much as at home, if not more. But, seeing that you are yet a child yourself, I do not expect you would understand this. And using the term breed is insulting to all parents.

I have NEVER equated morality with religion.
Were they akin there would be less 'religious' wars.
