Windowblinds 5 shareware display properties error in appearance tab and no skin

Tuesday, January 3, 2006 by Vampiro2000 | Discussion: Stardock Support General

I've downloaded today windowblinds 5 shareware, but I cannot chose or aply skins, even after push the rebuilt list button on wbconfig. Also, everytime I chose the appearance tab in display properties popus an error window saying :"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program:C:\Wimdows\system32\rundll32.exe abnormal program termination"; and sometimes appears a different error message.
I would like to test wb5, so please tell me what to do!!!

Did you have earlier WB version installed? If so, uninstall all WB, then try again with WB5 trial only.

Before attacking the drivers, try this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&displaylang=en

Tryed Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP and drivers upgrate but nothing seems to work. Now the error is: "An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDll desk.cpl,,0" and "The imstruction at "0x7c901010" referenced memory at "0x027f0834". The memory could not be read"". Click ok to terminate the program.
I don't know what else to do!!! Please help!!!

When I asked about the drivers, I was going to suggest downgrading to a 7 series (77.77 is a good one). That last error is related to a screensaver...got one running or just install one? Look in run/ msconfig/ startup and see if anything other then nVidia is set to run 'rundll32'.

Programs using Rundll32 at startup: rundll32.exe bthprops.cpl,,BluetoothAuthenticationAgent;
RunDll32 cmicnfg.cpl,CMICtrlWnd; RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup;RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\System32\NvMctray.dll,NvTaskbarInit.

The two nVidia entries are fine. I assume you have a PDA you use with this computer. The second is your onboard sound. Un-check both entries in Msconfig, re-boot and try the WB install.

It´s necessary to reinstall the windowblinds 5 again, or it´s enought to deactivate the two entries in startup?

No, if you still have it installed then just de-activate the two entries, re-boot and see if it works using wbconfig.

If it's the error in #11 then answer the screensaver question in #13. Did you try the 7 series drivers? I want to be clear when this is happening....you install WB (without errors), re-boot (again without error) and when you open WBconfig (not Display Properties) you get no errors, but when you apply a skin (preferably Aura) you get the memory error noted in #11...have I got it right?

No. I install withou errors, reboot, try WBConfig and there's only classic and xp skins. Doesn't apply any. Tryed the display properties and get those errors!
