ObjectDock Plus crash

"Objectdock has encountered a problem..."

Just recently, whenever I open Objectdock Plus, it gives out a message saying "Objectdock has encountered a problem and needs to close." My taskbar dissapears and OD refuses to open. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling OD Plus, but the exact same message appears. I even try deleting the SDCMP.exe along with the other .dlls before reinstalling to make sure OD starts fresh. I try to revert to the basic Objectdock just to see if it works and it does! So I'm guessing there is something wrong with OD Plus? I have saved a dump file on my computer, but I see there is no way I can attach it to my post.

(Concerning the cache-emptying FAQ I saw a while ago in Stardock forums, I did not see any Stardock folder in my Application Data folder. And I am sure "Hidden files" is checked.)

I had the same problem too.
so far I've solved it this way:
from the first days of january a new windows upgrade has been sent, and this upgrade has installed back on my computer the Windows Messenger. As I'm using the MSN messenger this has made the MSN docklet crash.
the solution is to remove the MSN folder inside the docklet folder and the object dock won't crash anymore

the MSN docklet should be fixed

This is a joke man! Crash after crash after crash! Object dock will crash so I have to turn on my desktop icons to reload the PILE. Two minutes later what do ya know, CRASH! Stardock figure out how to back up your programs, it is OD plus, don't tell me I paid for junk!

GopherTee.... Do you have any Docklets running? If yes, try disabling them in ObjectDock Properties> General Advanced Options > Troubleshooting > "Temporarily disable Docklets"

If that stops the crashing, then you need to determine which Docklet(s) is causing the problem.

same here, is there a way to debug using the crash dump files? I just had object doc set up just the way i wanted it, it started crashing. I tried a PARTITION restore from a known good time and it STILL crashes. I can't figure that one out.

Ps, I need help fast, i am so used to using my setup in OD plus I can't deal with the MS interface anymore. Can u comment out the docklets in the ini file, as the advice just posted wont work if OD is constently crashing right?!?

You probably can..... you'll need to edit the CurrentTheme.ini found in C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus

ths really strange part is that i had an old copy of objectdoc free in another directory, and it works...go figure...

thanks for that super! is there a trick to a fresh install? i see mentioned manually cleaning out some exe and dlls? i noticed that the only thing uninstalling seems to do is to remove registry entries and the objectdoc.exe from the install folder, and that's about it. thanks!!!

well, after hours of i figured it out. either the startmenu2.1 docklet or the HD Monitor docket downloaded from this site are crashing OD plus. I figured it out by taking ur suggestion and editing the ini file, taking out the doc that contained these items, and then reconfiguring. Another possibility is that there is something about having a tabed dock on top and just a run of the mill doc on the bottom that is causeing the problem, but i have a cpu meter, trashcan, clock, the weather on the bottom doc and so far that's stable. but if i add an HD monitor I get crashes - the last time the ini file came up EMPTY! so now what I need is to get a startmenu docket that works and hd monitors. I could never get any of the Systats to work, so what to do? thanks!!!

I use PresStart to access the start menu http://www.tsoftcentral.com/tools/index.html

Download and extract it anywhere, and create a dock link to presstart.exe.

I've never had much luck with SysStats either. For HD, CPU, Mem, etc., I use Samurize configs, but those can't be added to a dock.

Me either, I use Sysmetrix and Konfabulator/DX widgets for System info & weather etc.
Never been able to get a stable setup with the Systats I want to use. I also find that in terms of performance it helps to keep the systray on a dock by itself with no "effects" used.

thanks u two! pressstart is better than anything i have tried for that feature from wincustomize site (docklets). so can samurize be added to a dock? i'll look into it. I am trying to get it all without a loading a lot of programs (ha!). before i found stardoc apps i used to use rainlender/rainmeter and what's now yahoo widgets. the latter really rots, the rainy stuff was great in function but just did not look so good. well, at least object doc is now behaving the way it should! thanks again for ur support.

thumbs up to tordex. the wheel on my mouse was flakey and somehow tordex wheel fixed it. nice little apps with little footprint.

anyway, is SDMPC.exe from stardocks needed? what does it do? thanks again!!!

Koasati, can u suggest some downloads for samurize? i feel a little overwhelmed by the website, it reminds me of wincustomize! i guess i need the app and widgets, just like with OD plus eh? can they both co-exist with windowblinds, OD, right click? thanks!!!

Not really...... I downloaded a couple of configs to study, and use for templates. One being the DesktopWeatherXML config. But I've made my own, using the Config Editor that comes with the program.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. You might visit the forums there, and get some ideas.

Yes they happily co-exist with WindowBlinds, OD, and RightClick..... I use them all.

That's needed if you use the systray replacement in any Stardock app. Without it, you'll have no systray icons.
