Microsoft has released Virtual CD-ROM control panel for Windows XP.  This program will let you create "virtual" cd roms on your hard drive.

This is something I've been wanting to do with my CD-ROM games.....can anyone out there compare this Microsoft release version with FarStone's VirualDrive 10 and/or GameDrive software?? I know there has to be a compatibility factor built in to run games. There has to someone out there who's at least used the FarStone product with all the visitors at this site.....Thx.

Hmm, there are Daemon Tools and Alcohol 52% or 100%. So what is this good for ?

Consistency. If the OS vendor provides a feature, most installations will have it.

This is a common advantage that all Mac users have. We can send disk images to each other and everybody will be able to read them.

Really, sounds like MS is way late with this feature. I have Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools, no need for anything else.

This was released "unofficially" quite awhile ago. It's not as "way late with this feature" as some people would like you to believe.

Yet again MS releases something not theme-aware.

Not bad for freeware. Exactly the sort of thing I needed for my son to play Stunt Track Challenge without the need to put the disk in and out.

I am having a problem with this download. I am using FireFox, I unzip the download, 3 files are sucessfully un-zipped but I cant find them . there is a vcd folder in my documents but it is empty. I search for this file and when I open it it goes back to the win-zip extractor.

Interesting, I wonder how the copy protection companies are going to deal with this. They can't exactly blacklist it like they do with Daemon Tools and stuff if it starts being bundled with Windows.
