spyware on Wincustomize

Monday, December 26, 2005 by jonathangolan | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

My Webroot Spysweeper shows that the Wincustomize site has various spyware cookies which it tries to install in my computer. Shame on you! Is that the way to treat people who pay for your software?

jonathangolan ...since you've been here since day one you 'should' have noticed Wincustomize.com uses cookies to help your system's browser remember which pages you'd seen...and what forum posts you'd read, etc.

The only thing that MUST be new is you have some quaint NEW 'Spyware' proggy that panics at the sight of a cookie.

They've been there all that time....there's about 4 or 5.... and they are totally harmless.

If you delete them they will just renew as your 'history' continues....or you can exclude/deny them and your site-interaction will not know who you are...so you will have to login each time...and guess what threads, etc you have read....hardly conducive to an enjoyable browsing experience...

Is there some sudden anti-WC rush that I didn't get a memo on or something? Seriously, it seems like lately, WC/SD bashing has become a sitewide pasttime here. Crap, I puruse the articles here and recent forum activity for useful information related to WC and SD, not for people's venting. for instance, right now in my left window under "Recent Forum Activity there are the usual 5 listings, and of those 5, 60% are complaints, 10% are general forum activity, and 10% are support-related. I think there needs to be some serious education to some of the individuals here as to what is and is not acceptable in the forums here. All personal freedoms and censorship issues aside, people should be better at self regulation. Anyway, for those who don't know here are some helpful links:

I'm going to have to ask for a White chocolate macadamia nut cookie here please... Oh, and as far as Spyware goes all I have to say to that is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! What spyware does SpySweeper claim is being installed? Maybe something called a 'Tracking Cookie', i.e. a spyware apps way to cause as much panic in it's users as possible while at the same time not actually proving anything. Trust the folks who have posted already, WC is about the last place you'll get spyware from, and if you think we're all part of the conspiracy feel free to as Jafo said to block all of the cookies and see what types of things they are used for.

block all of the cookies

I prefer cookies that are round not block shaped... Why would I want to eat block shaped cookies anyway?

Cause then you know they didn't cut any corners making the cookie.
