Systray icons not showing up

Friday, December 16, 2005 by morwyn11 | Discussion: ObjectDock

I have turned on the button in ObjectDock that allows system tray icons to show up, but there is just a blank there. This is also happening in ObjectBar. I don't have sdmcp.exe and I think that is the problem. It's not in the common files/startup folder or the temp folder under sdcentral. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling stardock central , but I get an error saying: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." And then: "Could not execute the external program C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\sdmcp.exe." Can anyone help? Could someone just email me that one file? Please? My email is: [email protected]

You didn't mention whether it's the shareware or full (paid) version. Usually when someone has SDC they show up as a current customer.

Yes, it's the paid plus version... and I also have the latest Object Desktop as well. SDC downloads fine, it's during install that I have the problem. I've also tried installing an older sdc and the new one as well. still no luck. same thing happens.

Well, someone emailed me the file, so it's working now. Man, that was a pain...

I figured out what the problem was with my systray icon not working. As long as the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\sdmcp.exe does exist, all that one needs to do is double click on sdmcp.exe and the icons reappear.

this is a pretty old post so i'm not optimistic that this will yield me any help, but here goes:
i got a new pc, installed SDC, and OD+ (along with my other Stardock apps) and go to make a systray zoomer dock and nothing. No icons for the systray. I've found numerous posts telling me to go into SDC tools settings and check the MCP boxes. Well I did that, but I didn't have SDMCP.exe on my pc... I guess that's my first question: why not? If this is a file i need for purchased stardock app, then why isn't this file supplied by stardock? Anyway, so I tried uninstalling both apps and reinstalling. This did not bring me the file, nor fix the problem. So next I copied the SDMCP.exe file from my other PC and even put it in the startup folder. Now SDMCP.exe runs, but I still cannot get the systray icons to work. I would really like a stardock rep to get back to me on this. This is far too much work to make a feature of a purchased app work.
