DX Is Better Than Litestep

So says the general consensus. Why, then, do Litestep themes look better and function better?

Litestep = Shell Replacement, actually changes the GUI, it is not explorer.exe it it litestep.exe.
DX = No change in GUI, just makes it more efficient or custom built. (All it does is hiding taskbar and desktop icons, but doesn't change the GUI).
A comparison between the two is not possible programmatically speaking cause DX still needs work to fully implement coding languages (VBA,Java,etc...while in Litestep these are already there, hence the steadiness you mention), but visually well DX has room to expand and progress. My guess for future: DX will beat competition from any other program. The codes will give you the ability to create almost anything for your computer, whole programs within the program, while graphics...well it's up to skinners to raise the level.

There are many threads in this forum regarding this subject. I am well aware of what Litestep is and what DX is. Which, of course, doesn't answer the question. Why should I, for example, use Litestep Antares over DX Antares?

Since you know the difference between them, and none of us know what you want, like, need as far as customization, only you can answer your question.

I'm more partial to Avenger. But as long as Jafo's feeling "warm and fuzzy" is all that matters.

Litestep is my shell of choice, Antares is awsome. I hate "warm and fuzzy", it means I need a shower and shave!

I'd use LS over DX any day, becauase as a theming program, LS is better. DX is pretty much just developed as a widget factory these days, so very few people take advantage of it as a theming program. Plus the taskbar and systray in it are very limited. The can only do single rows, no double height.
You can build a pretty functional LS themes, with lots of neat modules, without having to know any complicated coding stuff either. It's all very straightforward text-based formats.

If you know how to code, then DX can be used in a way that would smoke an LS theme, but unfortunately coding isn't a skill a lot of themers posess.(The exception to this is Gef. He's really carrying DX theming by himself, and he does a good job)

So as far as proformance, i would guess that anything that replaces the shell would be more native than something that sits on top of it.

I guess I don't get the question then unless it specifically has to do with themes that are the same name on DX and on Litestep.

that´s not an advantage DX has over LS. there are modules that work as hosts for Visual Basic (LSVirus.dll) or Java (forgot the name, it´s pretty old). the latest hype is LSLua.dll though. Link

And Obsidian is pretty cool. Another theme that makes me want to install LiteStep (I just don't know if I am geeky enough to remove Explorer). I mean just look at that thing! Even the shut down panel and windows are skinned (can't do that with DX... not that I would want to having WindowBlinds).
Personally, though, I think gef, Chadamus, Boxxi (have you seen Nijikon Fetchi 2??? Jafo should be jealous), and even _Martin_, MikeB314, Adam Solley, sranshaft (professional citrus v1.0 and others) and myself (back in the day... I love my 'STAY' and visorekVIPER' themes. I was taking it to the NeXt level there with dual desktop themes on one desktop with a click of a button *toot toot*)

That new Obsidian theme looks pretty dang cool, Jafo&gef. You may finally have competition in the LSthemes.

A better compairison would be Litestep to Aston Shell.
The closest thing to Desktop X is something... I can't remember the name... I think its on Deviant Art and then Konfabulator (and I am not really sure if Konfabulator can be directly compaired either but it comes close to DX in widget making but not desktop replacement)
