WB5 and checkboxes

Tuesday, December 6, 2005 by Moletai | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I have the problem with some skins (but not all) for wb5, that I can't see if checkboxes (for example in wb config basic settings or in firefox options) are checked or not. Checkboxes are simply blank. What is even more strange is that I can see very few checkboxes selected but when I move my mouse cursor over them selection marks simply dissappear and checkboxes are the same as all others(i.e. blank). Anyone else experience this? Can it be corrected?
I run Windows XP SP2

What about on other dialogs like taskbar properties?

Thanks for your interest. With all other dialogs (also with taskbar properties) is the same. Checkboxes are not shown as selected, but they are.

I have written to Stardock support for help with all the details, but they are busy people. No is holiday period. Still no answer with some suggestions. What is interesting is that I can't see selected dialogs in the skins which I had no such a problem when I used wb4.6. But some skins per pixel alpha works fine. I am not so sure this is graphic card or driver problem.

I've got a similar problem with WB5 but it affects (as far as I can tell) only one program. Irritatingly, excluding the program has no effect. In my "version" of the problem, the radio button isn't displayed at all, though I know that it should be there. The affected app is RegDefend.

Here are the details from WB system info tab:

Just bought a new (cheap) laptop and I'm having the exact same problem as Moletai.

Checkboxes seem unchecked, and clicking them seems to have no effect.

As the only reports of this are with SIS graphics, it seems likely this is a graphics driver bug.  Could you try using 16 bit colour mode (reapply the skin after changing colour depth) and see if that helps?

OK, in 16 bits, checkboxes are back. Except now I have other display problems, as expected in 16 bits. Seems I have the latest drivers for my SiS gfx adapter though.

Just dropping in to note that excepting RegDefend under WindowBlinds 5 latest beta was successful in getting the checkboxes in that app to appear correctly. No other problems to report with respect to checkboxes in other apps...

I have recently bought a new laptop with SiS graphics, too. And I have the same problem. Yes, reducing the color depth to 16 bit works, but this could not be the final solution, couldn't it? Will there be a WindowBlinds update that corrects this problem? Or do I have to trouble SiS with this?

Thanks.

I am sorry to say that you need to speak to SiS about this.  Only SiS graphics drivers have this problem so it appears they are at fault.
