Help with a game issue
Word wars and Direct X errors

I recently downloaded the word wars game for my wife, she loves word games, she has a system with windows 2000 on it, the computer has proper processor, 3d graphics and plenty of memory, I updated the Direct X to the most current. When she goes to run the game, she gets an error stating that she needs direct x 8.0 or higher... She has I believe it was 9, can anyone help with this, or suggest some place to get help?
