USB recognition on Dock?

Tuesday, November 29, 2005 by TouuuucanSam | Discussion: ObjectDock

hey everybody... i'm pretty new to using object dock and i wanted to know if there's a way to make USB or Firewire drives show up on the dock when they're plugged in.

like an ipod or a flash drive, for example.

any comments would help, thanks.

You should be able to do the following:

1 - Connect the drive to the computer.

2 - Open "My Computer", and then drag the icon representing the USB/Firewire drive to the dock (make sure "Lock Dragging" is deselected for dock).

3 - If you want to change the icon image, just right-click the dock icon > Dock Entry Properties > Change Image button.

Note - if you save your theme, the icon will remain in place, but will not open any drives until the next time you connect a drive that is assigned that specific drive letter.

thanks for the help it worked.

just to further my question.... is there any way to make the usb device only show up as a docklet when i plug it in? or do i have to leave the docklet on the objectbar constantly?

I do not know of any way to set the "Plug-n-Play" icon (which appears in the system tray when you plug in a device) on the dock, so this is the only way I know of.

Someone may know a way, but I have yet to see any posts on how to do it.
