WindowBlinds 5 BETA 2 available

Animation, 64-bit Windows support, and more!

Friday, November 4, 2005 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Stardock has released WindowBlinds 5 beta 2 this week.  WindowBlinds 5 is designed to customize the look & feel of the Windows GUI.  The new version has been completely re-architected to be significantly faster, have more features, and provide new effects for skinners.

Beta 2 includes a host of bug fixes, performance optimizations, and more. Here are some highlights:

  • 64-bit Windows support
  • Per-Pixel frame and title bar animation support (skinners can create some really cool animated title bars and borders now).
  • New WindowBlinds config can switch back to Windows XP style
  • Updated WindowBlinds config makes new options easier to see.
  • Adobe CS2 support enhanced
  • Fixed AdMuncher issue
  • Toolbar skin installation improved
  • Full screen background per pixel support for shutdown dialog.
  • Lots of bugs fixed.
  • New performance optimizations

The beta is currently only available for Object Desktop users (www.objectdesktop.com).  WindowBlinds 5 should be publicly available before the end of the year.

You still can only get WB to show in the display properties dialog if you upgrade from 4.6, not if you do a clean install...

Hmm, WB5 shows up in my display properties dialog after a clean install. Did you manually remove all files left behind by WB4 after uninstallation?

Same problem here. Updated SDC and then found WB5 was no longer in the options list.

Stardock has supplied a file http://sd.stardock.com/remove7.zip that will undo the changes made by the last update (or so I believe), and WB5 should be visible again.

Excellent! This one actually works this time. Oh happy day. I love all these neat new transparent skins and I've been waiting for a chance to try them out. One small hitch though... I had to manually activate it with my user name and object desktop serial number. But now it works great.

has this build dealt with the multi-user issue?

Apparently not. My girlfriend's user settings were wiped out and I can't access any Object Desktop element from her logon.

Mm, nice update but:
- Missing the textbackground in the topbar again
- Menubar background isn't supported (showing a default image)
- Menu Bar item isn't supported (showing a default image)
- No PP left and right frame in maximized window
- MDI buttons not supported.(showing a default image)

pinchecl: Maximized windows don't have visible left & right frames so thats why there is no per pixel on them

I am unsure about your other issues.  Per pixel doesn't support custom menubars, MDI images, text backgrounds etc, so if you are talking about that then thats perfectly normal for per pixel skins.  Non per pixel skins should continue to work as they did with WB 4.6.

Sorry photoshop seems to run slow when i have more than 5-6 files open (seems to hang abit)

when i change something it takes a lot longer to change it than with WB4.6 installed??

With the latest build of SDC (98) WB5 won't appear as available if WB4 is installed. Uninstall WB4 and both WB5 & WB4 will be shown as available on refresh. Conversely, if WB5 is installed, presumably WB4 won't be in the list. This approach should avoid some problems & confusion as only one version can be installed at any one time. Per Brian Harper @ SD. I don't remember seeing this in the SDC release notes, but at least it's fixed & now we know.

Cheers,
Daiwa

Well, yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. But in a previous PP version text backgrounds were supported for sure. And even if not, That's my problem with the version. It's something I do miss in it

In no version of WB5 have per pixel titlebar skins supported a text background.
