Lost windowblinds

WB 5

Monday, October 31, 2005 by Fairyy~ | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Well...heres my windows blind 5 issue. Not sure I saw anyone complain about this but...I had been using it..no problems at all. I liked it.
I updated a couple of blinds..deleted the folders first and downloaded the new versions. While in WB folder I deleted a blind that I knew i'd never use. When I opened the WB config the blind I deleted was still listed...but without a preview , just the name. So..I highlighted it...then clicked on " delete this blind "
And it was a total disaster. A strange box popped up that Ive never seen before. I shut it. Shut WB config. When I reopened it..all my blinds were gone. I unloaded blinds. Went to the display to reload from there. No blinds there either. The entire wb program was gone.
So I had to uninstall in SC and reinstall 4.6 ...for now....
Strange event.

Here was the box that popped up at the time. Since I reinstalled 4.6 ..box never came back again.

Don't know if any of these will help. But it'll give you something to read while you wait.

Thanks Bichur..
Now at least I know it wasnt me.
I read the first link and saw that it happened the same exact way to someone else. It happened so fast I kept going over it in my mind. " did I hit something else ?" I was so shocked that just deleting a skin could do this.

I wasnt upset..after all its a Beta version and I knew what could happen..but I was bopping along minding my own business and ...poof..gone..

Thanks again..tossing you a little Troll snack for Halloween ...

I am wondering what the commonality is for all those you listed links to bichur...cuz I tweaked the heck out of my system, I mean lots of registry/install/servcies tweaks and I expected to have problems with at least one of my skin-apps. I guess I lucked out (fingers-crossed)

for me - the commonality was "data" in the subject line of the search box.

Good to know Fairyy~~. I've been cleaning out some stuff on my computor that I don't use. Just today I uninstalled Object Media thru SDC. After I restarted the DLL for AOL and AVG were missing and I couldn't start either one. Uninstalled and reinstalled and everything is fine. Not a clue why it happened. Was thinking about deleting some blinds I don't use, think I'll wait. As long as I don't mess with WB5 and load from config everything works so I won't take chance and have to reload a bunch of stuff.

Your blinds are still there-- you just can't see them. I had something similiar happen with an eariler version of IP. Someone recommended this proggy-- it's excellent & free:

I think the safest way to delete blinds is to do it manually, you know the old fashioned explore, point, right click and delete the folder. I had downloaded a blind that I didn't mean to, something I thought not too pretty, and deleted it safely like this.

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/SyncBack.html

Fairyy~ get yourself a copy of Syncback....set it up to do backups of any/all skins or any data files of any sort...docs, etc.  Get it to do them on a daily basis...then any beta 'stuff-ups' won't hurt [as much].

It's pretty-well the best proggy you can have on your machine...

I knew they were still there...the folder in Stardock was intact..but I had no place to apply a blind. No WB load....

I've seen that link mentioned before. I'll check it out..thanks.
It wasnt a big problem when WB5 took a dive. I knew it could happen and had waited. I only downloaded that version to go with the " SCROLLS " DX Theme buzzh58 had made..originally it was a wall and widgets and I needed a transparent task bar. Im still using 4.6 for today. But..i'll probably give in and download it again. I liked it.

I had already deleted the blind that way. There seems to be a bug in WB 5 that the deleted blind still shows in the WB config but without a preview. Thats what I tried to delete. That was a big mistake

Majic...i've seen strange things happen for no reasons. I just try to go with it. Not long ago my Firefox just deleted all my bookmarks and tabs ..for no reason at all. I had to reinstall but all my good " stuff" was gone.
