The Disgruntled Customer

Saturday, October 29, 2005 by Fairyy~ | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Years ago back in 1990 I found myself faced with a drastic change in my life. After being retired from Nursing for 7 years while raising children I was forced to find a way to return to work to feed and clothe them..I went to work in a busy Seaside food establishment.
Worked at night and basically ran the business for him after awhile. I decided to open my own business 3 years later. He and I remained good friends. The day my business opened..he sent a nice plant and a small package. A small paperback book. I forget the exact title but was something like " So you want to start a business" I didnt really get to it until I had been open for a few days. I thought it was odd that a books first Chapter was " The Disgruntled Customer" Strange place to begin..so i thought. I read that first chapter. It goes on about the one unsatisfied customer. What to do with that one unhappy customer..after all..its just one little customer. Yet, the book said that one unhappy customer is one too many. They researched the one unhappy customer effect on a business. One person will tell 20 people on an average about their poor service, poor quality and unsatisfactory response to a problem. Of the 20 people, they will repeat the story to no less than 5 others. Thats 100 people. The 100 will tell 5 more..and so on and so forth. If you do the math you will see that the numbers can reach a staggering amount in no time.
That pretty much sums up all I had to say. Now I'll resume trying to upload a DesktopX Theme that buzzh58 and I worked on together. Well..he did most of the work. He tried uploading it several times over the past 2 days and I have tried for him since last night so many times i've lost count. Last time this happened T Man sent me an email to fill out giving exact times, and all system requirements so he could check into this uploading problem. Never recieved any type of response or confirmation that anything was resolved. But..what the heck..i'm just one little customer..
In case anyone actually will try to fix this problem so buzzh58 can upload the DX Theme..which at this point, I doubt he really cares and neither do I ...but the " This Document Contains No data " or after spending 20 minutes filling out info and sitting while watching cursor spin ..only to see page finally change but instead of the usual upload confirmation you get :

There's currently still a 'glitch' related to the Mod queue....unfortunately they often pop up on a Friday....so things go all wobbly till Monday...

No buzz..not many unhappy customers remained unhappy ..I always knew enough to toss in a free meal to make them feel they were important. So, if this post help fix your "glitch" then I'll go back to knitting wooley caps for winter as its already snowing in this God forsaken place.

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down...when in doubt, I just sing.
Alls well that ends well.

Not too hard, I hope.

That was in the old days...these days, with such widespread internet usage, the message spreads like wildfire in an instant to a multitude. I was so ticked off once, I sent out about 120 emails about my 'disgruntlement'. About 8 months later, a person I'd never met or contacted raised the very same issue, almost word for word....."I got this email...." It turned out he had received it via another contact of a contact of one of my contacts

Had little effect though....lil Johnny Howard and his govt is still in office

Maybe if we all wish really hard, those caterpillars on his forehead will turn feral and burrow through to his brain

Actually, this was taught as part of a business course I did some decades back ...it's one of the [many] things I keep as a training tool when hiring new staff. In my line of work [ travel accommodation provider] word of mouth can make or break a business.

Precisely what I thought when he and his cronies drastically cut funding to the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, which develops anti-venenes, serums and conducts research into such things as snake and spider bites, etc.

Some time ago, I had the misfortune of being bitten by a 'white tailed' spider: spending several weeks in hospital and many, many months recovering before I could resume any semblance of a normal life. I was fortunate, however, in that the aforementioned labs fully supported the hospital I was in, providing the necessary treatments, advice and etc.

Sadly, and this is the part that angered me so much, lil Johnny's govt cut the funding and the support practically dried up overnight, thus prolonging my recovery period considerably. That early support most definitly saved me much greater pain, suffering and inconvenience, but that more recent victim I met wasn't so lucky.....he lost a part of his right foot and still had a necrotised wound that went right through his lower leg, some 18 months later.

Not alot is known about the 'white tailed' spider, its bite or how to effectively treat it, thus the research is rather important, given this spider is found throughout Australia and bites are on the increase. Nasty little critters need no provocation to bite, either, and then it's not the venom, but the digestive enzymes that wreak havoc for many months, even years afterwards.

Oh well, the mental imagery was good

Mine was a plague of these critters infesting a certain MP's office, home, car, whatever, but in reality, the most likely result would have been dead spiders instead.
