Web Based News Readers vs Desktop Readers

Which web-based service do you prefer?
If you have used both web-based & desktop readers, which do you like better?

I didn't mean a service in that respect-- I just couldn't think of a good word for the companies that have web-based feed reader sites. Bad choice of words on my part.
I've used Opera's RSS to sign up for a couple of blog / forum feeds. Maybe I already have what I need with tabs-- a couple of forums & maybe Google News or the Yahoo News that used to be my home page...
The reason I shied away from a desktop feed reader is that I can envision getting in the mood not to look at it for a few days & ending with a big mess of stuff I meant to look at piling up. Somehow I envisioned that I would keep it cleaned out better with a web-based set-up, but I can't give a good reason for that thought.
Tabs would be easiest-- nothing to organize. Just don't look when not in the mood. On the Opera forum, I was amazed to see that some peeps keep 30-50 tabs open on average. With my usual forums plus a news page I'd probably range from 3 to 8

Lately, I been using a ticker though. It's pretty cool and it's skinnable. It's called Newsplorer and can be found here Link It has a fairly small footprint and if you mouseover a headline it automatically pauses and puts up a tooltip tih the headline and the source, date and time. It will also pop-up a small notice when it gets a new healine, kinda like the winamp notifier.
As far as web based, I haven't used one for more than a few minutes. I wasn't overly impressed, but I don't want a service for it.
