stupid newbie question: how do i get the taskbar to be tranclucent in wb5?

Thursday, October 13, 2005 by MattMoon | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Hi,

I have what will seem to most a really silly question. How do i get the transparent effects to work in wb5, especially for the taskbar when i am using a wb5 skin?
thanks in advance for any help.

First, I want to thank you for using the correct term of translucency........ I'm getting tired of people talking about the new 'transparent' titlebars in WB5, when we've had transparency for years.

You shouldn't have to 'do' anything, if you're using WB5, and one of the new skins designed for it (assuming your machine has the proper graphics card, and drivers).

What does it say when you click the Troubleshooting link in the WindowBlinds Configuration dialog?
Is the "Never use per pixel borders on a skin" checked by chance? If so uncheck it, apply changes, and see what happens.

WindowBlinds 5 BETA Troubleshooting Report:

STATUS : WB+ SRV+ HLP+ UI+

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC.

WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC

Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

You have one monitor in total.

(Dell 1905FP (Digital)) 1 is attached to RADEON X300 Series
'RADEON X300 Series Secondary' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAY2', but is not attached to the desktop.
'NetMeeting driver' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV1', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.
'RDPDD Chained DD' also exists as device '\\.\DISPLAYV2', but is not attached to the desktop and is a mirror driver.

I am using the arrow skin, and do not have the never use per pixel borders on a skin checked.
all of the other menus and bars go "tranclucent", but the arrow screenshot shows the taskbar that way too. i wasnt sure if there was a menu that ytou had to check to turn that on is all.

The thing is, the taskbars translucency isn't "live". If you move a window behind it you won't see it trhough the taskbar. It's blended with the desktop background when the skin first loads. You might not notice much effect depending on your desktop background. Try applying a textured background and you should see it more noticable.
