WB5 Select Data Source

I can't use WB5 (4.90d) or the previous betas on my work machine because I keep getting a "Select Data Source" popup box every time WB needs to try to get the list of skins.  This happens through the WB config panel or through display properties while attempting to get to the Appearance tab.


I've uninstalled, reinstalled.  This morning: I uninstalled the previous beta, wiped the WB directory of all but skins, rebooted, installed 4.90d, rebooted.  Same problem.


This work machine is a development machine which has .NET development environment, MSDE and a few other development things on it.  Could this be my problem?


Obviously, any help would be appreciated.

Try just selecting the Install from Disk, find them and load them. Or I think what I did was just went into the directory and clicked on the .wba files and let them load the app.

I still need help with windowblinds listing my skins

This may be a stupid question, but did you click the little "refresh" button below the preview window in the WB config panel after placing or loading skins into "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds" folder?

Note - I had to move the horizontal scrollbar below the skin listing in config panel after clicking refresh, to get them to display.

Just a thought.

i've install the skins and refreshed but i don't get any skins. the weird thing is skins show up in per application, my toolbars and animations ect. but not in "my skins".

have we given up trying to fix this issue?  don't want to have to pull windowblinds off my system, but I am being left with little choice.


still getting the db error.

There is another thread that addresses this issue. I am currently looking for that thread, you might check through some threads too. I do believe that someone came up with a solution/workaround for the Data Source thing.

Mike, I am having the same problem(dsn source) as the others here. I did an update and then started having my problem. I can't seem to resolve the issue.

Beldroan, thanks! I found this fix after trying twice and failing to install WB5 the latest Beta. As elaborate as it was  it worked like a charm. Can't believe people actually have spare time to figure these things out. Oh wait. Maybe this is your job. But anyway, thanks! I don't usually figure out what to do so fast.

i tried to download "this file" and just got sent back to this thread
i really would like to use the new beta and i'm not great at changin stuff on my machine so would appreciate a simple fix if there is one. thanks

jaidaksghost: here's the file you are looking for. Download and save it, then run it. You can select which OD programs you want to uninstall. http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/odnt_zapper.exe Hope this helps. Reinstall wb4 and 5 after reboot.

scorpio-logic: i tried your fix - all it really accomplished was killing off all my skins - still had same problem. luckily i made a backup of my skin collection before trying it. i found the OBDCJT32.dll driver mentioned in one of the other posts' but i'm unsure what to do with it. i also did some research and found that Microsoft Access (which i have on my machine) doesnt use that driver for its database anymore - it uses one called Mjet. that may be why it is missing. i'm wondering if i can install the driver without causing a conflict with Access' driver.

i also wonder if (since it seems to be a common problem) the WB5 installer could verify that all neccessary files are on a machine (like this driver) and if not install them.

one stroke of luck so far - i did get the Aura skin from the WB5 installation attempt - one more for the collection!

I don't know what to tell you. If you read that long thread with the i386 folder copying thing...well just seems easier to backup everything and reformat. I get lots of practice at that so I don't mind too much, but I have a backup every three days just in case. Good luck with finding a work around. Glad you made backup of your skins.

jaidakghost: if you update wb, you may find things fixed up. new update available. I've been looking for this thread, forgot the title...and there are so many with the same title. Hope for the best.
