Any way to mock it in SkinStudio to be totally clear like it isn't there at all?

Caprice with per Pixel comes pretty close: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?Library=1&skinid=5342

It still has a line across the top of the task bar. I liked it visually . . . but kept getting confused and couldn't use it.

Rusty Rooster V5 (which uses PPA by default) uses a transparent Taskbar. (Only the TaskTray, TaskTools, Start button, and icons in the QuickLaunch area are not transparent.) I have the Taskbar set to my usual two-icon depth, but can see through the bar to my wallpaper underneath (MCE 2005's default wallpaper). Application performance is on par with that of XP without WindowBlinds loaded, and faster than that of XP with WindowBlinds 4.6 (and that is even with WindowFX being only at 2.12, not the current 2.2) and DesktopX being only at V3 (not 3.1) Pro. I certainly have no quibbles.
