Any x64 news?

I think the title says it, I'm getting tired of having to keep the windows taskbar so I can use apps. which don't show, and for the system tray.

Any news? Surely it wouldn't be to hard to add a minimal level of x64 support that allowed the tray icons to display.

Been a while since I first asked, and nothing, maybe now wb5 has been released, there may be some development on other things.
All I'm (we're?) asking is that OD+ is able to see 64-bit apps on it's taskbar and system-tray, it doesn't need a full conversion to a 64-bit app, surely? Or can 32-bit WoW64 apps only see other 32-bit apps?

I agree. I just got SDP and have been searching through these forums looking for a way to get tray icon support. I knew it was probably a problem with x64, but this is the only forum entry that mentions it.
Seriously, we need to get support for this in 64-bit. You're losing a good 15-25% of your happy customer base, Stardock.

Guess I should have read the forums more before i payed for OD+ guess I shouldn't have assumed that it would be completely compatable with x64. Oh well guess that's some money down the drain (unless they get around to fixing it).

We have a good solution in place for x64 for the taskbar, and hope to put out a helper program that you will just put in the same folder as ObjectDock to allow it to make necessary adaptions. System tray support however, is significantly more difficult to workaround ; haven't come up with a workable solution yet.
The problem is, x64 creates heavy complications for programs that interact with other applications on the system, and for programs that use plugins. This program, does both. Recompiling OD for 64-bit would make it so that 32bit plugins would no longer work. And, then, 32-bit apps would not show up in the systray/taskbar. For now, our current plan is to continue having OD itself be 32-bit, but be able to show and fully interact with 64bit apps via the upcoming helper. As time progresses, this may change to allow OD to make full use of 64-bit processing

Seeing as the only thing I ever really used the System Tray for was the time anyway, and having the OD clock instead, it's not a big problem losing it.

I must say, it's working great, well done.
No crashes, no other problems.
All that's left is the System Tray, but that problem's been explained, so I'm happy.
btw, you said a 64-bit version wouldn't be able to see 32-bit apps. Seeing as Explorer can, is this one of those things Microsoft refuse to tell people how to do?

Well its a little different situation with explorer, since it's the original application being sent messages by other programs which is what happens when apps request to add tray icons. My stuff on the other hand has to tap into other things of varying bit-type 32/64 and then plug back into my 32bit module. Aye complications. So it's going to be some time for the tray. I'm hoping we can figure out a whole new kind of method to use instead of our old one. But at any rate I'm very happy that the taskbar stuff is working good
