Do you like Sci Fi?

Personally, I like time travel, space travel, computer/robotic/a.i. stories. One of the best artificial intelligence stories I've EVER read is "The Two Faces of Tomorrow" by James P. Hogan. If you have a chance and run across it, give it a read. I think you'll really like it. And let's not forget Star Trek and Star Wars.

| Asimov (R.I.P.), was the king of sci fi |
Totally agree. I read all the robot novels and all the empire novels in order at least once a year. Also have all of Clarke's Odyssey Novels. Recently I've been reading "Saga of the Seven Suns" by Kevin Anderson.
I never was really big on the movie and TV Sci-Fi, although I'll sit through a good Stargate before I'll watch any other TV except maybe the news/weather. Recent Sci-Fi favorite movie would be The Day After.

| Nope, oddly enough that movie was called Soylent Green. Inspired by the book Make Room, Make Room by Harry Harrison |
I learn something new every day! Hehe! Thanks, Tapper! All I really remember is the impact it had on me! Incredible sci-fi story!! And I have to say... for me, the best sci-fi revolves around the 'story,' not neccessarily the technological presentation of the film.

Movie? That Star Wars flick was not too bad, but I have to go with Jesse Ventura and Arnold Scharznegger in the original "Predator". "I ain't got time to bleed!!"

Another classic set of trilogies. Got'em all. Always wanted to wake up in the "Land" one day.

Firefly, a fantastic series that i'd never have believed could be so good when you found out it was about cowboys in space. I think it was the same team who did Buffy that were behind that one. it got cancelled after its first season. Big shame as it was great sci-fi but I believe there is a movie on the horizon now so who knows, might get a season 2 after all.
In movie land, my favourite by far is an unknown flick called Primer. It's essentially a time travel movie but has to be the most convincing portayal of time travel ever. It's so realistic that you can't help being sucked into the complex plot and be hit by how profound the idea of time travel is all over again. Asimov would have been proud of it I'm sure.

. I think the message and ideology behind the whole series is great (even, or especially these days).I've been reading scifi since I was a kid. I've always liked Heinlein, Asimov and even Arthur C. Clarke + a whole host of other great authors.
My all time favorite series is the "Ender" saga by Orson Scott Card.

With Asimov, any and all of the robot stories.
A. C. Clarke is out there on the deep end but some of his books have captured my imagination. One in particular, Childhood's End was both exciting and haunting at the same time. Actually thoght about trying to read it again (if I can find the time).
And I would love to read James P. Hogan's The Two Faces of Tomorrow again, for the sixth time.

I really liked it, but it suddenly disappeared from the network airing it and I never got to see the end of the second series....what a bummer....don't know if there were any more after that and I'm yet to see it available here in OZ on video or DVD.
Isn't that always the way...complain bitterly about neverending repeats on TV, and then, when you really want one......

Thats definitely top requirements for my movie prefs. (Well, alongside a good plot.) *sigh*...I love surround sound.
There are some "no way"s but for the most part, if its sci-fi, I like it. But...people, people...no one has mentioned Tron.
I wouldnt be surprised to see a remake of that.Reply #39 Friday, September 23, 2005 6:37 AM
I don't like too read it often, I do like to read Salvatore, and others . I know that is Fantasy but sometimes they go so well together!

Yep...ditto to that, trilogy, is there any other way? I have 5.1 surround on my puter as well as my hi.fi and DVD players, so I hear nothing else these days....thundering
How else would you view sci.fi, unless immersed in wall to wall sound....vibrations to parallel the lift off of a klingon battle cruiser
Glad to see your mention of 'Tron', one of my favourites, and I like Jeff Bridges as an actor.....a remake would be fantastic if it remained fairly true to the original but with a quality soundtrack.
