Eye of the Storm
...it's harder to feel ready now
Sunday, September 18, 2005 by Madam GoodMorphing | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
There is a screensaver called *Eye of the Storm*. The other day I kept feeling like one was coming... you can feel it when they are quite distant, or at least I can ... so I fired up that screensaver and found that there are a line of storms coming my way. Hurricane Jova, hurricane Kenneth, tropical storms Lidia and Max. Likely they will sideswipe us or burn out. I started thinking what I would do... and found that it is more complicated now than before. I do know well my evacuation plan but the building I would go to is smaller than this one. And knowing the experience that people had with shelters and relief agencies I found that I had changed my plans. I have at least ten gallons of fresh water stored now and will fill my tub if it looks like something is going to hit. I have food for several days. I have a little stove. I have a big suitcase packed with things that I would need in case I really had to go. All I need now is a tent because I really don't want to stay in one of those shelters.
I guess it really does pay to stop and think what you might do in an extended emergency. Not just the once, but every once in awhile. What I would do now is a lot different than what I would have done two weeks ago. I guess I should go get some masking tape for the glass doors.
I really don't think anything will hit. We haven't had specific warnings or anything. But the winds are picking up some.

Thanks!
I can't find masking tape anywhere...don't they make it any more? I'm not liking the path ol' Max is taking. That one might be a bother.

Haven't come across one yet that doesn't sell masking tape...
Gaffer, or carpet tape will do the job, if you're in a pinch ...but some of the glue may remain on the glass afterwards. Methylated spirit will get rid of it though.
Stay safe, GM ..and let us know you got through it afterwards please.

Thanks WE. I'm still thinking these storms may die out (Lidia is dead already). I'll look those other places. I remember when Iniki came here... the masking tape I put up and didn't take down in time took hours and hours to remove.
joetheblow.. yes, I do have a firewall. I had to give permissions for both of them to connect the net. Seems like it would suppress the screensaver until after you answered it, though. I hope you can get it to work.

Kona, from what I understand hurricanes are in the northern hemisphere and typhoons are southern.

All of the pacific hurricanes petered out. This is what we are seeing of Jova, who is passing north of us now.
