DAP sucks

Hello everybody,
Before telling the story let me introduce myself. I am the person who is using DAP as the DM from the very first day I started net surfing – DAP is my first and only DM I have used. After that when DAP 7 released, writing 50 software reviews I got a free license of DAP Premium. I was totally satisfied with the performance and features of it.
Till the mid of July I was a dial-up user, but after that I opt for Broadband connection and got it. As from 16 th August, 2005 free hours were introduced by the Broadband service provider, I decided to download some DVDs – SuSe DVD, Knoppix DVD, Solaris 10 DVD, Debian Linux DVDs etc. Excepting Knoppix and Solaris all others were larger than 4 GB.
Now I added the url of each file to DAP download list, to my surprise I found DAP failed to report the proper file size for a file greater than 4 GB. A conclusion could be drawn from this incident that DAP does not support any download greater than 4 GB.
I started to search for a new DM and found one called Fresh Download having the capacity to recognize a file larger than 4 GB. The free s/w Fresh Download that was never in the competition among the DMs and that doesn't have the popularity as DAP has, found to be a much better DM than DAP.
Though Fresh Download is working good, but I need some features not present in it. Features like – a scheduler like DAP and if possible command prompt support. Can anybody suggest any alternative?

I agree.
I shall write a mail to the DAP support team describing the failurity of recognizing a file larger than 4 GB. Don't know whether they would respond or not.
DAP has a tendancy to make their product eye-catching and user friendly. They are giving much priority on speed like Intel, but not thinking of its overall performance.

I used DAP for years until I found out if you do a clean install too often It moans about the license having expired. Contacting support released the lock, but I soon got tired of doing that and switched to using Star Downloader.
At the moment I don't use anything, it doesn't seem to make much difference with or without a DM.

Had the same problems. I just switched to DOWLOAD EXPRESS. Now I won't use anything else. Besidse...it's FREE.

Since then, i've switched to flashget. Its worked fine for me and i know it supports full length dvd-9 size files, and its got all the functionality I need: up to 10 connections per file, resume broken downloads automatically, supports password protected downloads, and it has a scheduler, among other features. Theres a free version available, only difference between the free and shareware is that there is an ad banner on the free one (don't worry though, there is NO spyware with it, i double checked that when i first installed with both spybot and ad-aware).

I have already tried FlashGet. It is also unable to recognize a file size larger than 4 GB.

| What about Leechget? Will it recognize 4GB or more? just curious. being on rural dialup, I doubt I'll consider trying to dl something that size....well, maybe...if it's something really really cool. |
Neither LeechGet nor FlashGet supports download size larger than 4GB.

Yes after your post I tried GetRight. It supports larger downloads above 4GB. Could be a good alternative.

It is needed, if you have any experience of downloading DVDs on a professional basis, no need to describe the need of a DM.

Tried it. Yes it recognizes files larger than 4 GB. Nice DM.

So many DM recognizes it. Then why not DAP or FG?
