For our friends who are having to deal with hurricane Katrina...

Stay safe.  I heard this is going to maybe be the worst storm in USA history.

This is a good time to point weather widgets to New Orleans, or Biloxi and test out extreme weather conditions.

The hurricane hit south Florida Thursday night. The area where I live (Kendall) was hit pretty hard and it was only a cat 1 when it arrived. Right now it stands as a cat 5 inbound to New Orleans.
I hope everyone there is taking the necessary precautions to stay safe.

I was watching it from work most of the day. I too hope everyone in the area is safely out of harm's way.

That's a good idea, about the weather widgets, but only if the sensors can hold up to those kinds of winds.

Living in an area that is often hit by this type of nasty weather, I know the carnage it can cause.

I've been tracking this one for a few days now, and it really does look like it will cause severe damage to a fairly large area, should it reach land [again].

Please stay safe, call your loved ones well before it hits and ask them to also stay safe. Bring all your pets indoors if possible, or at least try to get them out of harms way.

Keep a battery-powered radio handy, and listen to the authorities.

My sincere wishes that you all get through this unscathed.

Definitely a bad area to be right now.

Good luck, guys....

Last night I was watching some pretty ordinary 'Disaster Movie' about Earthquakes...called '10.5' or something....then next morning I hear about cities being evacuated....bit surreal, really....

one of my co-workers are moving back to florida, she's so upset that there hasn't been much going on and now suddenly all of this. she's mainly worried about her animals which have to fly down there (coming back to Florida from Alaska so it's a long trip). She hasn't left yet but i'm hoping all goes well for her, and i hope my friend in Florida (Valparaiso or however it is spelled - in the panhandle) is doing fine - haven't talked to her yet

Stay strong ya all! It'll all pass in a few days. Take care and some precautions. I too heard it's one of the worst storms ever to hit USA. Been watching CNN and the scenes shown remind me of scenes from Apocalypse-Bible.

The area where I live (Kendall) was hit pretty hard and it was only a cat 1 when it arrived. Right now it stands as a cat 5 inbound to New Orleans.

Have courage my friend, and the strength to help wicker and older ones. I hope you are ok.
