How does most popular skins work ?

There are 5 top skins listed, for yesterday, in each gallery, and 20 when selected to show say bootskins when on popular page. I know from checking just before roll over from yesterday to today, by sorting bootskins by downloads today that my Porcshe 911 997 GT3 bootskin had the most downloads for what is now yesterday. It however is not showing in either popular listing. How does the system decide what shows in these lists. If the skin with the most downloads for yesterday is not there then what is the purpose of having a list.

it's by how many times a person dowloads it per day. I'ts not just one day.

You only get 1 download even if a person downloads it 10 times.The extra downloads show if you click on # of downloads on one of your skins, but for downloads on My Skins and Stats are 1 per person that downloads it.
When sort popular list for yesterday, that is for just one day, the 5 in top skins in galleries change every day, that list is for the past day.

The top downloads is based on registered downloads. When you clickm on the download count, it will show you.

That may be for the 5 listed in each gallery but on the popular page is total downloads.

Been wondering the same Cavan1,but still can't figure it out. Dunno if it's total yesterday's, WC subscriber's yesterday downloads or anything else. But i kinda wonder how yesterday is defined,cause i think it counts for two days (must be due to some kind of timezones difference)!

Hey Cyberworld, I have noticed what you have when select yesterday when looking at popular authors. It does seem that it is a good 2 days worth of downloads not just yesterdays.

The top 5 skins you see on the right side of each category are placed in order of total downloads by registered users (daily)
Popular skins are placed in order of total downloads by registerd users(on the past 30 days)

This has been happening for quite some time. I think Night Train pointed it out first, as have a few other people since then.

The problem is that some skins, even when tallied by registered downloads, just don't show at all on the Popular listing page, much less in the spot they should be in by rank.

My guess is that it has been a tough nut to crack by T-Man and his bug exterminators, or else the problem has somehow been overlooked or moved to the bottom of the priority list due to other more pressing concerns, such as making the site run smoothly.

If they do know about it hopefully they will be able to address it in the near future. Other than the odd server to busy error the site seems to be running a lot smoother now. There are users of the site that do download based on the popular skins rankings so it would be nice to have all skins that deserve to be in list there and in proper order. Site stability is and should always be top of the to do list but since these lists are by download numbers, basicly a reward to give top skins more exposure to site users it would be nice to have it work properly.

It is not working properly, if is by registered user downloads on popular page, # 20 is a new skin from late yesterday, 23 total downloads, 6 registered user downloads, at about 10:00 pm yesterday my Porcshe bootskin had 15 registered user downloads yesterday, last time I check 15 is more than 6, going by total downloads it was 5 or 6 yesterday, but again is not showing on popular page for yesterday.

Another quirk I have noticed is in Most Popular Authors sorted for Hall of Fame. If someone has changed their nick, and have enough downloads under each nick they are in hall of fame under both. Everything else as far as I can tell changes to the new nick. As an example PixelPirate is in under new nick and old nick Pixel Pirate, he just added a space to nick. Comparing my Logons rank from My stats page and from Hall of Fame, the rank is 5 places different. This would mean 5 authors in Hall of Fame under 2 nicks. I am 97 in Hall of Fame 92 on My stats page. As I said this seems to be only place on site where downloads do not transfer to new nick when author changes it.

More weirdness, still showing as 97 Hall of Fame logons but now showing 91 on My Stats page. When in the top 100 to show up in hall of fame how can rank move up one place on stats page only.
