Calling All Skinners, Calling All Skinners.....
Next skinning contest is on the way.
Monday, August 22, 2005 by Apocalypse_67 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
As many of you know, this year's
Skinning Contest sponsored by some of the
community members will be on the way soon (4 days to be exact)
This idea gave way to another skinning contest. This second contest will target
a more advance group of skinners since the categories on which they'll be
competing are; DX Theme,
IconPack and
WindowBlinds.
The prize on this second contest will be a Object Desktop ($50.00 value) for the top skin/theme of each category. The 3 prizes will be donated by Bones2112, Brewman and me Apocalypse_67. The contest will start on Sep 30, 2005 and will end on Oct 14, 2005. Winners will be announced on Oct 17, 2005
The purpose of this post is to give the skinners interested in participating more than a month's noticed to create their skins/themes. Just like the rules of the first contests, all work must be new and original. No ports or re-coloring of past work or work by another artist.
I will make the official announcement by
the end of next week. In the mean time shift those ideas into high gear and open
up those graphic programs. ![]()

| i hate to be stupid but when i post my skins, i check the (skin is a port) box and i really don't know what that means. |
Porting is taking a work already done by someone else and converting it to some other sort of skin/theme. All of your work so far Bash has been ports.

Do the participants need to not already have OD ? Or can anyone still compete in this regardless.....I suppose if someone won that had OD already, they could use it to re-new when it ran out ...
And this sounds like lots of fun..

Yes, use your own graphics instead of stuff you found here there and everywhere

The contest is open to everyone. Those that dont have OD get a chance to win the software pack and those that already have OD get a chance to renew it.
Hmmm, thinking about this... I don't have OD. I think I'm going to enter the contest my self

| oh my gosh!!! so i have been sending skins that people have thought are somebody elses!!!??? |
Eveything you have submitted has been ports.... you're using images that are not yours, and incorporating them into skins.

100% original work means you don't use ANYTHING that is not 100% your creation. For example... if you redraw SpongeBob, that still isn't 100% original. It's your version of SB, but not your creation.

that means i can make skins like my spongebob one except i have to change it a bit so that its not really my creation but at the same time its theirs?

I understand this is the 100% Original way.....but, for future reference..I had a question I saw on another thread concerning " Fan Art " This question doesnt really pertain to contest..I understand the 100% rule...
For instance...if i'm using psp tubes and i spend a week creating a scene that is original in thought..but used a few psp tubes..is that still " my " wallpaper ? I know this is a tricky question....psp tubes are spread out everywhere and you can see same images in 100's of different uses. So..even if i didnt draw it..would it be my work? I cant even draw stick people. Well...maybe i can kinda sorta ....maybe ..

The problem with me is that I only buy the programs that I skin, and when I first started I only skinned WindowBlinds. I need to get OD now since I'm starting to skin all of SD applications
Black Xero, as it stands right now, there are only 3 grand prizes to give away.
If it happens like the 1st contest where more prizes were donated afterwards, then we can add a 2nd or even a 3rd place prize.
Let's see how this one goes and thanks again for your support

You need to have some variation in your skinning. WB's are tedious.( purely observation) Plus to make a Suite..you would definately need it. I have it and there's still applications I havent even downloaded. There is just soo much. Im happy just tweaking and recolouring.
