Vista Explorer on XP: DesktopX has the Power

Feel Vista :)

Saturday, July 30, 2005 by Black Xero | Discussion: WinCustomize News

"Transparent Tilebars" is a unique feature of Microsoft's upcoming operating system named Windows Vista. But now, you can get same styled Explorer and Internet Explorer on Windows XP by using the standalone widgets created by tR0jAn.
DesktopX is the revolutionary program that gives power users and novice users alike the ability to design their own custom Windows desktops.

Excuse me...but why is this front page news now? I had this as a story over 2 days ago here and nothing: Link

Why does this member of WC warrant getting his post on the front page about this gadget and mine doesn't?

That truly pisses me off.

The Frontpage News policies have to be reviewed a bit, I think. I din't see why everybody should promote other peoples skins via the front page. That is not what it is intended for.

First of all, I am not promoting other people skins ... my cause is to promot WC and SD? and the purpose of posting this news to frontpage was to let people know the power of DesktopX. DX is not only for making calendars, doing some nice sidebars, making some weather objects. DX has more than all these.

How many people were aware of the fact that DesktopX is currently the only Desktop application which supports standalone widgets (small programs) which has smaller sizes and greater fuctionality and these wigets may include even fully independent Browsers and Explorers. and to my knowldge DesktopX is the only widget program which supports alpha blended bitmaps.

I take part in this community plenty, thanks though. Why did you also give me a link to that person's profile. Do you think I would care that she is 74 and has been around longer then me and has a much lower userid? The answer is I could care less.

Because his was submitted as a news item, yours was a forum post.

Its on Deviant Art. One of those links up there should get you to the right spot.

It should run even if you don't have DesktopX (and infact is the reason why everybody is so starry-eyed over it).

It's nice eye candy, but just not too practical.
2 things that make it unusable for every day consistant use.
1. You cant resize the windows.
2. Each window does not retain the settings of the parent window. ie.. I like to view my folders in list or detail view. That doesn't carry over to the next folder I open.

Are you using CursorXP? If so, that's your problem, not Vista Explorer. Turn it off and you'll get your mouse pointer back.

If not, never mind.

I use CursorXP and can see the mouse just fine in Vista Explorer. I just don't get the file info down the bottom like it appears in the screenshot.
