Why Was Longhorn 5203 Removed?

Tuesday, July 26, 2005 by Sventekoz | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Does anyone know why this skin has been removed from the site? Is there a problem with it we should know about?

Don't do ports without permission and you'll not ever have the problem of having one taken down.

Yeah - I'm glad I managed to get it too. Maybe we should only use a play on words to name things - something like shorthorn. I'll be interested to see what MS does with Vista - that's a word in common usage and I don't see how they could stop anyone using that!

Thanks for the link Woodbridge!

Whoa! I just went to Kol's website and it looks like he changed the name to "Lognhorn "'5203.'" I guess the problem really was the name?

LOL! Nice amendment!

Why doesn't Microsoft realise that this sort of thing just makes them look like idiots?

Microsoft needs to get thier heads out of their asses. These Long Horn skins been around before the word of an actual os being built, Microsoft should have no say so, in fact they should be the ones to get a lawsuite amongst them, for stealling that phrase from the artist on this site.

Ye gods... Yes, Microsoft gets all their ideas here. They got the idea for the BSoD from me. I think they owe me a gazillion dollars.

Hey longhorn 5203 is just like the Windows Vista theme. maybe that's why they took it off.

I'm afraid so.  MS legal told us they'd be contacting you and deviantART shortly as well.  They got to us first since MS people hang out here quite a bit.

Not that I support them wanting to take down Kol's skin, but could we ask Microsoft to take down all the Vista bootskins, wallpapers, etc.?

Just being sarcastic.

That's odd that they should ask for it to be removed. This skin isn't too different from the "Inspirat" theme. Although admittedly this is a lot closer to the skin used by MS, especially with the glow min, max, close buttons.
I don't understand what problem they have with it, using the skin should mean that people are interested in the next version of windows. I do understand that they paid someone to create that look though. Oh well glad I got it when I did.
