WB Speed

Msstyle

Monday, July 25, 2005 by dkunzman | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I am probably covering old ground, but......
Out of curiosity I compared WB and Uxtheme (Neowin).
I used Aero 5203 / Black Mesa and a few others.....
I have a 2.8ghz/533/1gigmem 256meg nvidia etc.... in otherwprds, plenty of horse power
I run XP Home / MSOffice 2003, Adobe (photo/acrobat) and the nornal other various goodies.....

I have been finding that lately with WB I was noticing a system slowdown, especially as I like to listen to tunes and work in multiple apps at once....

So on a whim (actually an article I read) to compare WB and something else (free... I know, cheap!)

anyway, when comparing the two styles, using visual styles of the same (see line 3) I found that my system runs slightly quicker using msstyle instead of WB.

Now, is there some trick I am missing in WB? I am just getting into designing some skins and looks like fun and has more options than msstyle.

Open to suggestions... (and waiting for LH, oops I mean Vista...)

Thx,
D.

Disable Windows theming perhaps.

I doubt that WB is causing the slowdown since its hardly using any resources - even less resources than MSStyles.

Snowman is absolutely right. I use to have Style XP and Window Blinds. I had Style XP first. My computer slowed down when I got Windowblinds. I got rid of Style XP and disabled themes in the services, and never looked back. If you keep Style XP enabled it will automatically turn the themes service back on at every boot, no matter how many times you disable it.

Thx for the info!
I will give that a try as looking back I had not disabled themes.
I'll let you know what happens.....

Update: Turned off themes.... reinstalled WB, installed a skin I have been building....
After a reboot, it appears that turning off the Themes was the answer.
Thx everyone for the help!
