Well, they had to pick something since the original title, Windows 2004, didn't quite work out for them.

I think Vista is a very appropriate name since it seems to be an OS that is perpetually on the distant horizon (of being released). Keep looking to the future folks. We're likely to see Mac OS on PCs before we ever see Vista actually released.

My opinion is that Windows Crystal would be the best one so far.
Just my 2 cents you know.

At least Vista sounds better then Longhorn. Basically it stands for future vision. Longhorn made it sound like Microsoft was going really redneck or something. Yehaw, let's gets us un of dem operatin systems partner, (while there kicking cow patties around the yard), lol.

Hum, every past future version of Windows always had a codename (Whistler, Memphis, Cairo, Chicago, etc.), which was never used for the final product name (Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows 95).
I don't get why people say "I like Longhorn better"; nobody expected Longhorn to be the real name used.

Having said that, I like Vista.

I think Vista is a great name.

It matches the OS.

Really dont like the name - maybe they should call it Windows XP Second edition after all they have cut all the new features from the OS such as the side bar and WinFS etc, all this will be is a new Windows shell and security patches integrated into the OS. Oh and of course better indexing features. At least that didn't get ditched (YET)! Feels to me more like a souped up version of XP more and more thats been seen.

I suppose you apply that same pattern to Mac OS point releases?

Don't really care about the name, just wonder when Micro$oft will stop charging money and give us all a free upgrade when they change the system. But all in all I did like Longhorn better than vista, maybe it's cuz I'm from Texas

About the same time GM stops charging you to upgrade your car to a newer model.
