Moderators do your job...
Thursday, July 21, 2005 by -OZZY- | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues
there prolly r different moderators for different sections, but to be honest, i don't care...it's not an excuse...
skins should be moderated by date, no matter the section...ok, that's it...thx

Furthermore, paying for a WC subscription does not entitle one to be arrogant or rude...especially not to the admins and moderators who freely give their time to help run this site. Along with the skinners, they are the backbone of the site and you need to consider that they must juggle their tasks here into the demands of employment, family life and etc, etc. There's only so many hours in a day...and like the rest of us, only human and less than perfect.
O.K, so some skins are moderated sooner than earlier submissions, but if you can suggest something better than the current system, your better course of action is to help improve it....rather than keep complaining.
You also speak of site improvements to attract new subscribers....well that would require finances and resources not presently available, so perhaps you have some concrete ideas on how this can be achieved.
Hey, WOM, blue pills, man, blue pills

anyway, ideas...
get volunteers who do have enough time...
invest (takes money to make money), i'm sure the big cheeses of WC have plenty of good ideas but not the resources...get those recources !!
advertising helps, not just for stardock but for WC as well...
i think investing is the key...but that comes with risks and should be well concidered...
and maybe get more/better volunteers if possible to make things run smooth around here, that would help getting more subscribers.
I don't have all the answers !
And Plz leave any personal comments to yourself, it's getting irritating !!!

Well, they are in the midst of remaking WC. They have done a lot. But things take time. Those things you mention will come in time, they are in the works. Just they need a chance to finish building the place.
It's been tough for all of us, but we get along by being as supportive of one another as we can. It doesn't help the stress levels to have moral all drained away.

In part, true, money makes money....but as was pointed out to you, there's just not enough here, and the challenge was put to you to either put up or provide something concrete to raise it. Tis easy to sit on the other side of the fence and find fault...
As for volunteers...would you do it? Investment? And better volunteers? You're very unlikely to find a better, more dedicated group than the ones we have already.

what exactly is going to be changed ??
Reply #28 Friday, July 22, 2005 4:18 AM
It's evolving as it goes. I'm not sure exactly of the final form everything will take, so I can't say this thing will happen or that one will. The site is changed a lot from when they started, and it will change some more before they are done.

me ? i don't think i would qualify...though i have the time....
anyway, i appreciate every minute the volunteers spent at WC, i'm just saying if they can't handle all the work there should be more volunteers to make it run smooth...
as the site grow, so do the issues but i get the feeling the amount of admins/moderators aren't growing....
as for money, maybe stardock can help out again...with a good plan WC could make more money and in time this could even save money for stardock since they partially pick up the bill...but not sure about that one though...

Thanks for posting your concerns.
We appreciate having the opportunity to grow and improve our services for our paying customers, such as your self. And we truly thank you for supporting the community and our site. As you might have imagined, we are in the process of enhancing features and improve reliability of the site. At the moment, we are focusing more of our immediate resources on solving the recent server issues. Sorry in advance for any trouble you've experienced. As far as moderating, this is limited to human intervention and deliberation. There isn't a whole lot that can be done in this area, as this is based on many factors that are beyond the control of any one person. KarmaGirl mentioned some of those factors earlier and I'll spare everyone from beating a dead horse.
As a full time employee of Stardock, I know how much work & money is put into WinCustomize. Believe me when I say that quite a lot of time and money is poured into WinCustomize. Unfortunately, I'm just one of only a few people that work on all of Stardock's websites and there are dozens of sites to contend with! We're kept quite busy. LOL If I were to look at WinCustomize from a business point of view, I would think Stardock to be crazy for dumping so many resources in to a website that doesn't come even close to turning a profit. Yet I see the passion and commitment that Stardock has to the community and it astounds me.
I do see where you're coming from in regard to getting more help and volunteers. One of the things that we strive to do here is make this site one that can be operated more so by volunteers. As it stands, some critical systems are not quite in place yet to support more community assistance, but they will be. They just take time to develop.
With that said, thank you for posting your concerns. It's to be commended that you're willing to assist us and the community as well with your time. You never know, we might be contacting you for a volunteer position.
Keep up the great work as well!

guess i wasn't to far off...seems they do need more volunteers
anyway, dark-star...finally someone with a positive look at "criticism" ...if u can call it that...much like the skinners around here like to get comments on their work positive or negative, it helps them...this isn't any different...
i believe stardock is putting a lot of money in WC but in return they get advertisement and customers...so they prolly get some of it back...maybe u should work together even more...
i got a phonecall, and completely forgot where i was going, let's just leave it at this then...

i don't think so...IT'S NOT ABOUT MY AGE !!!! and everybody who thinks it does, needs to grow up themselves....
anyway,
Goodmorphing, if i remember correctly i paid for a WC subscription not a Stardock subscription....and i think there could be a lot of improvements still on this site which will no doubt bring more subscribers...they shouldn't be losing money, i don't even think it's necessary...WC is awesome...
