"HELP PLZ!! IconX tab keeps disappearing!"

As we all know, we can download DesktopX and IconX and install using our serial numbers. Updates can be had using Stardock Central. We are having difficulty in keeping the IconX "Tab" included within DesktopX Settings along with the Welcome "Tab", Desktop "Tab", and Preferences "Tab". The difficulty starts when we update using Stardock Central. After a while one becomes exhausted in uninstalling and reinstalling in attempt to get this little guy (IconX "Tab") to join the others. Should we just give up, or is there a trick to keeping all of this flowing correctly with Stardock Central Updates?

That's for the smart startup, yes? The line you quoted was for looking for the option to run at start for IconX.
But at least now I know where to find the smart up
& and thanks to Corky O I can ID it.
(Now if only he hada also told me how to add it to startup )

This is not fair! ObjectDock free has a run at startup on all 5 tabs.

Here is a workaround for getting IconX to run at start-up until they fix the issue (it looks like the executible is looking in the wrong place for it's .dll files if you place it in the start-up folder).
No need for sdmcp.exe to be placed in start-up folder for this method, though it does not interfere either.
1 - find the IconX executible file found in the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconX" folder (where "C" is the letter drive) - it is the IconX icon for those unfamiliar with the files. The address shown also assumes that you have Object Desktop, for those who don't, just drop the Object Desktop from the address.
2 - copy the IconX executible to "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" folder.
3 - find the four ".dll" files in the same folder ("C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconX"), they are as follows:
- DirectGUI.dll
- dx0.dll
- iconx.dll
- IXResources.dll
4 - copy the four ".dll" files to the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" folder (where "C" is the letter drive), you should not be overwriting any versions of these files - as they should not currently be there.
5 - start IconX and create, then save your theme.
6 - restart your computer, and IconX should now start automatically.
Hopefully this will work for all until a fix can be provided.

au contraire, my fault for not being clear. what I meant was getting IconX into the startup - i knew you knew how.
but i got a question now. couldn't i just go to the startup folder and create a new shortcut to IconX? I went and looked in it and rainlendar is a short cut. I'm getting ready to give it a try. let ya know if it works.

I created a shortcut to IconX in the startup folder & now I have the 2 options (under Options) that didn't show before: systray icon and run on startup (which if I had before I wouldn't of had to create a shortcut to begin)

Okay Firedogs... don't think we'll be seeing the IconX tab unless we're in Builder mode with IconX running....maybe...didn't have the run at startup option til just now... so who can say.
got some more puzzling do ....

It sounds like you found the best solution for getting IconX to run at start-up while you were at it!
They must have written the program to add the options if a shorcut is created, though leaving instructions in the read-me might be a good idea.
Can we assume that the program is running at start-up by selecting the option, without having to copy ".dll" files to the system32 folder? I just swapped out my test drive for my regular one - which does not have DX or IconX installed, so am not set to test it.
I am happy to swap back, but if you can test it, that would be great.

No kidding!
I swapped the drives again so I could test some more.
Current findings:
1 - As Bichur had done, I used the "Right-click > New > Shortcut" method to create a new shortcut in the startup folder for IconX (this is after cleaning out all copied files in startup and System32 folders).
2 - As Bichur discovered, the 2 options "System tray icon" and "Run at Startup" appeared under Options tab, and the About tab was also added to dialog.
3 - If I load DesktopX, the 2 options in item #2 disappear, as well as the About tab in IconX config dialog. They reappeared when I unloaded DesktopX.
4 - If both DesktopX (either mode) and IconX are loaded, clicking the IconX executible in the Start Menu will not invoke the IconX config dialog. Access is gained through the IconX system tray icon with DesktopX client loaded, or through the DesktopX builder systray icon context menu.
Summary for IconX = Create a shortcut in the Start-up menu to access the Run at start-up, and System tray icon options (as well as the About information) > Load DesktopX only after making the selections in IconX dialog to Run at startup > create a theme > unload DesktopX if access to the IconX "Run at start-up", "System tray icon", and/or "About tab"is required.
Do not create a shortcut in the startup folder by copying file to folder, and no need to copy any ".dll" files to System32 folder with these procedures.
Bit of a learning curve on these ones, me thinks!

Yeah, quite a bit of curve. Me thinks when 'they' separated the programs they used a dull scapel. totally missed the about tab showing up, was too happy with the others i guess.
Just creating a shortcut to iconx in startup folder does allow both DTX (if option checked) and IconX to run at startup, but yeah you lose those little options cuz they blank out.
I'll check your summary on my comp later - was too thrilled last nite just getting it to run at restart to go any further with it.

Someone in this very long thread suggested a fix that worked perfectly for me and which is quite simple: If you shut down both IconX and DX and then start IconX the missing tabs should be back including the option to run IconX at startup. Once that's done you can start DX again. On my machine both system tray icons are there but IconX has missing tabs if DesktopX is also running. I hope they fix this.
