One Sentence Request to Microsoft

Respond here

Monday, July 18, 2005 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

If you were able to have a private meeting with Bill Gates and able to request ONE thing that had to be expressed in a single 25 word statement to be added/changed/fixed for Longhorn, what would it be?

Is there a way to speed up the OS loading time? Allow users to place startmenu on top of screen.

MMMMM How about better reliability, and no bloat. I can get the other programs that I want. Just a simple secure OS.

Longhorn is supposed to boot 50% faster than XP.

Mr Gates, you've amassed huge wealth, how about a realistic price for Longhorn that the lower end of the socio-economic scale can afford

I would like an OS that includes a "Dumb-ass" version for the computer-illiterate, but also lets you switch to an "advanced" version for the rest of us. (Much like Spybot)

Dear Microsoft: Please come up with an OS that dosen't need to patched all the time and uses less memory.

Explain.

No "please", huh?

The Amiga directory structure looks like this:

C: contains system commands (similar to .exe or .com on Windows)
DEV: contains system devices
Expansion: contains auto-load drivers for non-standard hardware
Fonts: contains fonts
L: contains system device handlers (similar to drivers I guess)
Libs: contains libraries (simlar to .dlls)
Prefs: contains system preferences (control panel type applications)
Rexx: contains Amiga Rexx scripts
S: contains system script files (similar to batch files on Windows)
System: contains system files
T: contains temporary files
Utilities: contains utilities
WBStartup: contains Workbench (GUI) startup files

Much more elegant than what we're stuck with on Windows.

This should be at the top of the list!

Hence the need for a 'Dumb-ass'-version. I suggest that this version is running on default after installation (good for about 85% of all customers).

The 'advanced' version would have to be 'unlocked' by the customer via a command-promt command, and would only apply to the account it is used on.
