Frustrated with ObjectDock Updates
Friday, July 15, 2005 by DoughnutMan | Discussion: ObjectDock
Here they are (again):
(1) I want to be able to place ObjectDock anywhere I want on the screen, not just the edges. MobyDock allows this, and the implementation would be a snap to program in....
(2) I want the problems with the Recycle Bin fixed. A central feature of ObjectDock that is critical to me is the ability to drag trash to the bin on the Dock and have it automatically be placed in the bin. Right now, if you do that without activating the "show active programs on ObjectDock" option (which I do not want to activate), the Recycle Bin either wiggles away from you or an extra icon shows up on ObjectDock after you put your trash in the bin. And even if you do activate the "show active programs on ObjectDock" option, the Recycle Bin only appears full if you throw away files, not folders. I realize these may be problems with the Docklet and not ObjectDock itself, but having a functioning Recycle Bin on the Dock is crucial to me (and to many others, I gather). I realize also that there are more than one Recycle Bin Docklet available, but I have tried them all (some do not even let you drag trash to the Recycle Bin at all).
Thanks!

| I am very frustrated that I have been waiting for months, since I first acquired and registered ObjectDock Plus, for a couple of very simple changes. I realize that the developers are awamped with requests, but mine are so basic that I cannot understand why there has been no attention to them at all in the last two updates. |
I don't work for Stardock but everywhere else I've worked it's similar: if you run a business with a multitude of products and a finite number of resources with which to deal with those products then there'll always be some waiting involved as things are scheduled and queued for attention. Some of what you ask may be in the queue right now - it just needs patience.

It may well be a 'snap' to fix (OTOH it may not) but if it gets approved as a feature then it's got to go into the work queue just like everything else...

I would hardly call this a 'critcal' issue that warrants such a tone in your post. What's wrong with the 'delete' key? It's much quicker
! Are you sure you've checked all available recycle bin docklets for the functionality you're after?Reply #3 Friday, July 15, 2005 10:27 PM
I wish ALL tech support people were as competant and friendly as Stardock.

I have indeed checked all the ObjectDock recycle Bin docklets available. What's critical to one person may be very peripheral to others, so I would not be so definitive in my judgments....
I will keep waiting, but I see no reason to get my hopes up....

You sound like a very educated man and I was just wondering what business you are in to have such an impatient attitude. The people at stardock seem to have a lot on their plates, keeping the programs updated and running as good as they do. Granted, some items such as yours gets dropped down the bit bucket from time to time. Stardock will them get picked up as soon as they can but just not in your time frame. Your best bet is to get help from the people on these forums; they may have had the same problem as yours or have heard of a fix for it. In any case you need to be a little bit nicer in your posts when asking for help and not so impatient.
Ok

This is what I wanted to say

I know this well from my dealings with my own customers (nothing to do with software but 'customer service' nonetheless).
Your statement applies just as well to your original 'request', I hope you realise

I am not trying to a a bully and to demand that my suggested changes are placed ahead of those of others. Instead, I am simply trying to make sure my requests are on the queue and not forgotten. I had gotten the impression that somehow they had dropped into oblivion.
