Ad-Aware and Spybot, paired with a good Firewall and Anti-Virus make for improved functionality and peace of mind.

You are free to disagree, I take no offense.
I have tried MS Anti-Spyware, and thought it was alright, but I did not want the extra process running. I also found that it missed a few items that Ad-Aware picked up during a scan which was run after one week of running just MS Anti-Spyware (though they are continually updating their information, and may have fixed this issue).
I use Internet Explorer and Norton Internet Security Pro exclusively for browsing and protection, so the weekly "Malware, Spyware, Adware" scan has served me very well - never had an infection on this computer (4 years old now).
Thanks for the input, and I am sure anyone dropping by will benefit from one of these programs.

No arguments there.
Also, Ive found that JavaCools Spyware Blaster Link, in conjunction with Spybots Immunize feature, is both effective and worthy. (I dont remember Spybots Immunize feature being spoken of here before, so I thought I'd throw that in.)
Thanks for the heads up Corky.

I have been trying to catch MS's antispy missing something by running ad-aware and still havent caught it..LoL
I Use Firefox and Nortons internet security suite '05..I also have a couple other antispy programs running aside from MS's so that could just be doing the trick...
At anyrate.. people need to use something..anything!..LoL..the amount of "Web-pests" out there is simply incredible...
Oh yeah, I meant to say *thanks* as well for the update Corky...
Even though I use it rarily now, I do still use it on occassion to see if MS is still doing it's job..LoL

| But when I go back to WU, it doesn't prompt me to install it again, so it must be somewhere |
It still has some bugs. Before I stopped using it, it stopped showing up on the taskbar even though it was set for startup. Hopefully they will get the finished version out soon.

I have had no problems with it, works awesome...
Ah well, you all should probably stick with Ad-aware and Spybot, sorry, I had no idea there were "glitches" in MS's Antispy..

You've got nothing to be sorry for, Zero. You're one of the lucky ones it works for!

| What's the secret to using MS Anti-spyware? I've installed it something like three times at Windows Update, and see nothing in my Start menu. |
There are two of them!
One is a commandline-only version which is the one that is updated via Windows Update.
The other is a beta, which Microsoft got when they purchased a company called Giant (see: http://www.giantcompany.com/default.htm). It's available here: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
This second one is a lot more like your conventional spyware apps.

Like many others, I'm sure, I use Adaware and Spybot (with teatime) in conjunction with the MS Antispy, and the only real problem I had was a bug riddled browser hijacker some weeks ago. That was covertly installed with a theme I downloaded and not detected by any of these programs until it was unzipped, so even with all this protection it pays to be careful just the same.
In any event, all these progs are goood and good to have - be bug free everone

Ad-aware I used to swear by..Spybot didnt impress me in the least bit..
But MS's Antispy Impress's me entirely! Works much better than both Ad-ware and spybot together, the "Real-time" protection is an awesome and actually needed feature..
Im not saying anything is wrong with Ad-aware, but if you own your copy of XP, MS's Antispy is free and personally I think it is better...
Go get it and see!..LoL http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
