Frequently used program menu
I'd like to get this on the dock

OD has a nice predefined shortcut to the start menu though when I use that I still find myself digging through the Programs directory structure to find a certain program (Media>Video>Editing>Tmpegnc.exe for example).
I never do this when using the real start menu because this program is listed in my most commonly used programs list. I believe that windows creates this commonly used programs list from a registry entry however, and that is not a folder full of shortcuts stored on a HD.
My question is this: is there a way to create a flyout menu or a drop down menu on Objectdock that will display these commonly used programs?
I also wonder if there is a way to access the control panel menu from Object dock. With these two requests of my list I will be ready to do away with the task bar once and for all.

I am not clear on the frequently used programs, unless you are talking about recent documents, or pinned shortcuts.
You can create a custom flyout menu by doing the following:
Right-click dock > Add > New Flyout Menu, then right-click the entry to get to entry properties > select Custom Menu > use the Add button to navigate to and select the program ".exe" you want > select an image for the dock entry > save your theme.

Yeah, right under the Pinned Shortcuts on the WinXP start menu is a dynamicaly updated list of the most frequently used programs.
It is not the programs menu (which shows all installed programs), it shows only x number of installed programs starting with the most commonly used.

I don't think it is possible.
MS made that area almost impossible to modify to prevent low life applications from utilizing that space. I remember a similar topic on this a long time ago.

In case you were unaware, the "Win-Key" pressed by itself will show the Start Menu (with or without taskbar visible).

The deal is that I love the Objectdock fly out menu thing. I've got 10 - 15 programs that I use over and over and it seems like a perfect match. Really, if the the OD flyout menu gets to crowded or to deep it becomes not fun to use. Maybe I can just create my own folder full of these 10 - 15 program shortcuts and call it good.

I got this in the mail from Andreas Verhoeven (the guy who make the Startmenu Docklet) after asking him about how to create such a shortcut.
I'm wondering if Stardock can code it can't someone make a docklet for it?
So I'm off to find the Stardock request page

| In Windows, all items that can be shortcuts are so-called PIDLs (actually they have a pidl, but we just name it PIDL for now). The controlpanel is a virtual file on your machine, and it's accesible because it's a PIDL, thus it has a parsename, thus ObjectDock and every other application can use it. I checked it for you, but the "recent used items menu" is unfortunately not a PIDL. The best thing to do would be to request the most recent used items as a feature (hey, you paid for OD+, so you should be able to fill requests!), since it's not at all troublesome code for the author to write. |
