Windows cannot find "(null)"

Lately, when dl clicking on a file...eg a jpg .... Paintshop Pro loads...but this error pops up. Then I dl click on the file again and it'll load.
This is using Explorer Plus....but Windows Explorer is the same.
I'm assuming I have a service stopped that cause the error....yet dl clicking on a doc file loads word just fine.
Any ideas?
Google didn't help as any refs to the error appear to be different issues or system-wide...

that's the DDE message in the open action for the filetype....
It does load PSP .... but it doesn't load the image into PSP...not until you double click the image once more...

Also...if I get to the reassociation dialog...'open with'...always use this proggy...while right clicking on an image...eg 'pic.jpg'...the PSP loads but the error then becomes 'windows cannot find c:\[whatever]pic.jpg'....
...so I'm no better off...again PSP loads without the image...

XP Pro...with SP2.....but this error is only recent...nothing to do with the SP2, etc...
Gonna reboot after resetting associations in PSP...and see if it's pain free now...
