Diversication is good. At least there is a market for porn sites. What need is there for the .aero extension (only available to the, like, six airplane manufacturers)?

I agree, and it makes it a *lot* easier to block those sites from inappropriate eyes if they can all be lumped together in one domain.
Let's just hope they all honour the convention (not likely I guess).
