Jumpy Dock

So when I mouse over the dock, each time the mouse hits a blank spot inbetween 2 icons, it goes all jumpy and the transistion is not smooth at all to the next icon. I tried all 3 "performance" settings, and all 3 have the jumpiness. What can I do to stop this?
