Urgent Advice

A good Anti Virus Program

No one read my Topic on Norton Anti Virus but I really need help to choose another Anti Virus and would like to know what other people use. One other problem I have I just can't seem to get rid of certain programs left behind Norton Anti Virus on my Add and Remove programs list, they are listed there but I can't get rid of them. It would also help if you read my article on Norton that I posted earler on. Would be grateful for help.

I had so many problems wiith Norton that I un-installed it and went with AVG antivirus (free) http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1 and Zone Alarm firewall http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp for only 20$ or so. These have worked wonderfully after so many problems with Norton.

I've been using Panda Anti-virus for the past 2 years and have not had one problem with it. It's very compatible with windows xp SP2. Reguarding it being left behind on your system go to the norton site they have ways to make it go away.

Developer Sleeping Dragon I thank you so much. If you read this by any chance would you know how to get rid of those programs left behind on Add and Remove after uninstalling Norton Anti Virus. I would be most grateful.

I used AVG for a long time but it seemed to miss things and show problems that weren't there..just occasionally, for the most part it was great. I tried Avast and have used it for about a month. It updates automatically, scans every night and in real time in the background, and for me it has worked great.

The only time I had problems getting rid of progies left behind, it was either a virus that was multiplying or the alienguise suite. If you go into your programs (from your start menu), under Norton, there should be an uninstall link that will remove it. Besides that, if your ad/remove programs do not work, I would go onto their site like Redbuzzard mentioned and find something there. This last time I uninstalled via their "uninstall" link.

I have used AVG (free version) for about a year, and the only problem I've had with it, is that it reported two or three files for containing trojans, when they were clean as a whistle. That's not a "real problem" in my opinion.

In addition to AVG, I use Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware & Winpatrol to keep my system clean..

Yeah Yrgal, that was what I got with AVG. True, not a real problem but I didn't like having to double check them to be sure. Other that those few times, AVG was great. Also use SpyBot, Ad Aware, Microsoft AntiSpyware, and even the Yahoo Toolbar one.....damn, is that overkill or what?

AVG is the way to go. I have had it for years with no problems. Free or purchased, you wont be sorry. I have the instructions from Norton on how to get everything off your computer, which Webgizmos was kind enough to send me. I would be happy to send them to you, if you would give me your email address. Just dont use the "@" symbol. Put "at" instead. That way you wont get picked up by spammers. Yrgals advice in #9 is very good.

Guys you are just a bunch of CHAMPIONS, I am really just so grateful for your help, I too use a couple of Spyware products like full version of Ad-Aware Se Plus which comes with Ad-Watch it's really good, also have SpyBot, Microsoft AntiSpyware which suprised me how good it acctually is and easy to use very quick and efficient I also have Spyware Blaster very good in restricting a lot of bad sites. Well we all use nearly same products so this girl is doing something right.

To Developer Sleeping Dragon, I have tried everything but it just won't remove the list from their product from the Add and Remove I think their .dll or something is in System32 under some file name which has to be found and deleted than when I reboot that should be removed from the Add and Remove, have had similar problems after uninstall of other programs most leave behind a trace that has to be done this way. Now I have tried going on their site if anyone has been there lately its like a labyrinth you just don't get anywhere you would get a warmer reception from a freezer.Thank you again for help and advice.

clwoods I would kiss you if I could if you give me those instructions because I have been running around like a bee lately I also have a job that takes around 17 hours a day, most days a lot of times I don't sleep for a couple of days which is the case now I have run page after page on Symantec site and I wish that they go to hell, I am also behind sending my work to Aussie land and my boss is not pleased I wish they send me to Indonesia where the last disaster happened because I am a fully trained chaos.My e-mail address is Emailyou did say to put "at" in the middle? Hope I am writing this right any way you have a full functional brain and mine at 23 and at this moment is like a five year old hard disk drive. Thank you so very very much.

I think the Gremlins are back! Your comment was'nt there when I wrote mine, and yesterday one of mine disappeared on another thread! Anyway, I have sent you an email. You might get one from webgizmos too. I have lost the removal tool he sent me. I wrote him and asked if he would send it to you. I have sent you the instructions. Sorry about that.
