Protect individual files and folders

File Securer is designed to protect your sensitive folders and personal files. The program embeds protection into the Windows system kernel, both in command and window modes. File Securer lets you lock your folders and files anywhere. The locking and unlocking object functions are integrated into the system menu. Select an object, right-click the mouse, and click lock or unlock. If someone wants to access your locked object, the system will ask for a password. The tools will record the error passwords and the user, then report to you. Version 3.73 updates the lock path module and repairs some incorrect links. Updates the Win9x and WinNT system function.

I always thought that password-protection of individual folders was a feature missing from XP. It's fine that you need to know the password to log-on using a particular account, but it would be an extra bit of safety to have a password to protect sensitive folders with private information.
Is there a way to do this on XP that I'm not aware of??

This feature should be intrinsic to all OS's. Impossible to believe that Microsft has neglected to include this feature. You can password protect personal folders like My Documents, but I haven't had any success with any individual files, say not native to My Documents. Bit ridiculous really
Then again I use XP Home; my friend tells me XP Pro has better security... anyone?

hmm... I got XP Pro. If I rightclick a file, choose Properties, then click "Advanced" (next to the "read-only" and "hidden" checkboxes) I get a new window where I can tick a box to encrypt the content. But I've seen nothing to password secure a file or folder. But I haven't really needed to do so, so I haven't looked that much.

All though, I noted the following line in the FAQ
Just wondering why they dont have the software refuse to lock special windows folders. Sure would make it easier and safer for people who don't know what's special windows folders but just want to secure their data.
By the way, has anyone tried this software?
