a few issues help needed

Wednesday, March 30, 2005 by Verinos | Discussion: DesktopX

Howdy folks. Ok first posting on the help boards. Be gentle .
I'm currently running desktopx pro 3. and have encountered a few issues and was hoping for some help.
First lemme say I don't script. I use the default desktop stuff.

My first issue is when making meters....cpu,memory,uptime, kb/s in and out etc etc.
The meters will work fine UNTIL I group them as soon as i group them one of the meters starts freaking out trying to be all of them at once by the looks of it. As soon as I delete the one everything is fine but if i try to remake it and group it with the others the same thing happens again. I'm not using images. Strictly text display. It seems I can make about 5 meters roughly anymore then that and they start wigging out.

Second. How does one make a group ummm inivisible? By that I mean.....lets use media player as an example. I have all the buttons set up they all work fine and they're grouped. How does one make the group invisible until needed. Basically how do I stop em from all showing up when I load up the theme. Mine all appear as soon as the theme is loaded no matter how I save the theme. I have the player set up with an object controller which works fine but as I said it always appears on theme loadup (same thing with the meters)

Third. I've had object controllers open all the objects that are available. Umm an example. I had tiggz dock installed as I was making meters and setting them up with an object controller. When I clicked the object controller it opened up tiggz visualization and media playlists objects and was only setup to open the meters.

Fourth and final. This is more a general question. The widgets created in desktopx 3.0 the ones that can be made as stand alones without needing desktopx installed. Is there any way to include these in a theme without having to manually load them up? I'm thinking specifically of the omni wallpaper changer ( i believe tiggz again the artist) I'd like to have it continually loaded up with my theme but I always have to do it manually which can be annoying. Anything that can be done about this?

So those are my major questions. As I said be gentle I don't script I just have fun. Thanks in advance for any input

First problem: no clue....., sorry

Second Problem: create a transparent layer and set it as a parent object for all your player-buttons. Right-click on the layer > Properties > Relation > click on visible "no". Then change the popup to "Toggle". Finally assign a unique name to this Layer (e.g. Player_back). Then use an object-controller object to toggle this layer.(you said you already have it setup with a controller, so I assume you know how to do that).

Third problem: I found that DX sometimes changes things (a little bit like MS-Word changes your formatting without you wanting it, grrrr...). Sometimes it helps to restart DX-builder to get rid of quirks like that.

Fourth problem: If you import the widget to your theme through 'Import' > Widgets > choose the Widget you like.., and then save this theme (with the loaded widget) the widget should load every-time you load the theme. You can also then right-click on the widget and configure it like any dx-object.

Kewl thnx.

I had actually figured out the second problem though I didn't do the transparent layer but i just selected everything and did the visible and toggle thing hehe. Ummm outta curiousity though how does one go about making a transparent layer? Not sure what it is.

The third problem I'd done that and your right it usually helps as does a reboot. I have a habit of leaving my pc on way to long and it's a crappy pc so resources go bye bye eventually hehe.

4th problem I'll try and get back to you on hehe.

thnx again.

Okies yup it works for the 4th one as well though I don't seem to have the system tray icon or the option to minimize the wallpaper changer. ah well i assume thats a glitch with that widget. not the end of the world i found the option to make it run on windows startup so i'm happy hehe.

thnx again

Actually, I only suggested you make the layer transparent (just make a transparent png in photoshop, but warning! it is very hard to see a transparent layer ) because I thought you didn't want a background to your player buttons, since you obviously didn't make one.

As for your minimizing problem with imported widgets; you could always make a controller button/toggle button for it...
